Mt. SAC (Mt. San Antonio College) 2014 apps are reopened!

Published

Just thought I'd toss out a friendly note that Mt. SAC (city of Walnut) has finally REOPENED applications to their ADN program starting SPRING 2014. Those that apply right now up until the last date which I think is somewhere in October will be applying for spring of 2014, and so on. It was closed for about a year to a year and a half due to switching acceptance systems from Lottery-based to Multi-Criteria Screening. The main reason for the closure was to ensure that every person left on the lottery system had gotten into the program before switching to the new one (makes it fair on part of those that have been waiting).

The multi-criteria screening is basically like the point system. You get a certain number of points based on your core requisite GPA, overall GPA, hospital experience, any degrees, and so on. Some of your points come from your core-requisite GPA (anatomy, physiology, and microbiology) which is 40 points, then next is your score on the HESI test which is a max of 30, and then your overall GPA/if you hold a bachelors which is another 10 each. There are a couple others but they give less than 10 points. You can google the Mt. SAC ADN program and look at the specifics yourself and how many points you have.

Some quick notes:

They accept 60 students every semester (fall and spring) but they can accept up to 90 depending on the budget (but of course in these days, it'll most likely stay at 60). There is a 4 day mandatory orientation, ALL day (no lie...) prior to the start of the semester where all accepted students AND alternates must attend. If you need clarity on anything, call the nursing department and they'd definitely give you more of a heads up than I have done.

So yeah, good luck to you all and hopefully last long enough for you guys to see me in third/fourth semester

I believe so. The original deadline was the 1st of March but since they extended it to the 21st than i would assume it would take longer for them to start to give out notifications. :( when i had talked to the nursing department they said they would start giving out notifications at the end of April and early May.

Hi guys! Just decided to pop in and wish you all good luck on getting in! Mt SAC is a great school with wonderful professors who will really help prepare you to become competent and good nurses. FYI, previous years they took approximately 90 people per semester which were split into two classes (I graduated 2009).

Thanks so much! I can't wait to find out! :)

Has anyone found out if they got in????

This waiting is killing me! :dead:

I heard that they'd be notifying us last Friday and this coming Monday, but I haven't heard anything yet. I did hear about one person hearing that they got in though... And one person receiving a denial.

I have several W's from my past, (I've been going to school since I was 19 and I'm 40 now), I'm wondering if these are going to come back to haunt me. :(

If anyone knows anything, please post! This waiting is agony... Thanks and good luck to everyone!

Has anyone found out if they got in????

I received an e-mail earlier today requesting I set up an appointment with a counselor, as I'm a "potential candidate" for the Fall 2014 or Spring 2015 program.

Congrats Eries!!! That's awesome. I'm sure you're in. They probably just want to review your transcripts and make sure everything is legit.

Did you say you got the email today? Did they send it today or did you not open it till today?

Also if you don't mind me asking.... How many points did you have? Did you do well on the hesi?

I received it at 14:12 on 04/13/2014 and opened it shortly after I woke up today.

I believe I had 86 or 87 points on the multi-criteria screening, and on the HESIA2, I had a 94.4 or a 95.4.

Wow, much higher than my scores. I'm crossing my fingers at this point. We'll see what happens. Congrats, sounds like you had amazing transcripts and what a HESI score, wow! Mine was 87.5, it's been a bit since I've taken Anatomy/Physio.

I'm hoping for an email sometime soon. Thanks again for the info Eries. Stay in touch. :)

Good job eries I too received the same letter at 14:12 today!

Hey guys I just received the same email on being a potential candidate today thru email. I want to let you guys know that there is hope for those of you who do not have a top notch score. My final point on the multi was 70 and HesiA2 was 81.

Thanks DavidzOrs... I really appreciate you being so positive. :)

And congrats to all of you!

Omg I just checked my email and I received the same letter!! I wonder how they determine who is in for Fall vs Spring...
