Mt. SAC (Mt. San Antonio College) 2014 apps are reopened!

Just thought I'd toss out a friendly note that Mt. SAC (city of Walnut) has finally REOPENED applications to their ADN program starting SPRING 2014. Those that apply right now up until the last date which I think is somewhere in October will be applying for spring of 2014, and so on. It was closed for about a year to a year and a half due to switching acceptance systems from Lottery-based to Multi-Criteria Screening. The main reason for the closure was to ensure that every person left on the lottery system had gotten into the program before switching to the new one (makes it fair on part of those that have been waiting).

The multi-criteria screening is basically like the point system. You get a certain number of points based on your core requisite GPA, overall GPA, hospital experience, any degrees, and so on. Some of your points come from your core-requisite GPA (anatomy, physiology, and microbiology) which is 40 points, then next is your score on the HESI test which is a max of 30, and then your overall GPA/if you hold a bachelors which is another 10 each. There are a couple others but they give less than 10 points. You can google the Mt. SAC ADN program and look at the specifics yourself and how many points you have.

Some quick notes:

They accept 60 students every semester (fall and spring) but they can accept up to 90 depending on the budget (but of course in these days, it'll most likely stay at 60). There is a 4 day mandatory orientation, ALL day (no lie...) prior to the start of the semester where all accepted students AND alternates must attend. If you need clarity on anything, call the nursing department and they'd definitely give you more of a heads up than I have done.

So yeah, good luck to you all and hopefully last long enough for you guys to see me in third/fourth semester

Just submitted my application. I'm hoping my 82 points are enough to get me accepted as this will be my first time applying to Mt. sac

Wow! ::britneyspears voice:: you better work work! Your points are amazing! I'm 10 points behind you so if anyone is in you are definitely in! Do you have experience in the medical field already?

I do have some experience in the medical field working as a rad tech that helped with some extra points there. Crossing my fingers here. Good luck to the both of you!

Hi everyone,

I've been a mt sac student for a few years and this new multi criteria based acceptance really excites me. I finished my pre reqs and hesi during spring of last year and waited for this time to apply. In these three years I accumulated 90 units of coursework, an AA, an EMT certification and also completed the honors program. I've been busy. I was fortunate enough to have received all A's in my pre reqs..i took chem and anatomy together then I took micro and physio the next semester. I don't recommend anyone on taking multiple high unit science classes that are pre reqs unless you know you can get A's..those are a lot of points on the scale for pre reqs. Take your time and focus on each class. This past Fall I took Mt.SAC's EMT program to learn basic patient care skills, and how to assess and treat common medical and trauma conditions. I just took my final this last week, and once my completion comes in the mail I will take mr national test. I am crossing my fingers that I can get into this falls nursing class...I calculated my points out to 88 I can't believe how hard it is to get into the 90's. I have a 3.63 cumulative and scored in the 90's on the hesi. So in thinking people in rhe 80's r going to be the competitive individuals.

Your stats are great!! Best of luck on your EMT exam! Did you already apply? I'm just waiting on the letter from my pastor to show that I'm a 1st generation college student.

Thank you kynzoesmommy ! I only have to upload the documents, but have to ask them if they need my official transcript even if I attended mt sac for everything.

It is terrifying to know that we are the first cohort entering this new selection process! :nailbiting: I'm used to entering a program and having some idea as to how competitive my score is. I just submitted my application, and from what I've calculated, I have 89 points. This thread is so helpful in giving me an idea as to how competitive it may be, but then again...you never know. I have 5 points for CNA license, 40 points for pre-requisite courses, 8 points for cumulative GPA, 30 points for the HESI, 5 points for over 200 hours of healthcare work, and 1 point for needing to work while taking pre-requisites. I wish everyone the best of luck!!

89 is AWESOME! I really don't think I'm going to get in, with my 72. :( I am so excited to hear who gets accepted though!!

Has anybody received any emails saying that your application was received? I haven't...I figured I would get one after the application deadline passed, but maybe we won't see anything until they have gone through them all...

The only email i got was after i submitted my application and the email said when they will start giving out acceptance or deny? Something like that. did you get that email?

I didn't get that email! I wonder if I need to check my Mtsac account... I've been stalking the mailman and refreshing my email like a mad woman waiting on these *acceptance* letters!

I didn't get that email...and I've even been checking my Mt SAC email! Hmm...maybe I'll get a hold of somebody over there just to check. I'm currently attending Cypress College, and I know that my Yahoo address will sometimes randomly reject their emails...maybe it's the same for Mt SAC. *shrug* I did go back and try to apply again, and it said that I had already applied. So that's a good sign at least! :)

We should be notified by May of our *acceptance* into the program!
