Hi,
Has anyone completed an online MSN degree and then have been admitted to a post master NP program. I am currently completing a general MSN degree at Capella University with focus in Leadership/Administration and Education, and was interested in pursuing a post master's certificate. The program is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission, and The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education and some courses include advanced pathophysiology, health assessment, and pharmacology which are many prerequisites to post-certificate programs.
Thank you
I went to Texas Woman's University in Denton for an MSN-FNP and then for online Post-Masters AGACNP Certificate from Texas Tech University in Lubbock. I basically had to take only 3 courses worth 16 hours of credit with over 500 hours of clinicals. Had no problems enrolling or going through the course material but I did have to go for a couple of days for each of the 3 courses, that is 3 times to Lubbock Texas from Dallas, which is where I live and work.
Did UVA pay for any of your FNP program since you work there?
Same here, MSN and working on my post master's FNP currently. Just know this, pretty much every single school that has post master's in nursing programs will NOT give you ANY financial aid. Read the fine print. Almost all of them say that "post master's certificate students are not eligible for (insert your school name here) or federal monies." What this means is you CANNOT get any federal student loans or any school scholarships/grants/fellowships/work study. Also, most private student loans require you to be a "degree seeking student" which you are not. Really your only options for money are personal loans, your own money, and/or employer education assistance. It sucks!!!! Consider yourself warned!

A quick google of the phrase "post-master's certificate financial aid" shows me a number of programs that do provide federal financial aid for post-master's certificate programs. There are some that don't, so it's worth investigating if you have a particular school in mind, but I think you may be overstating the issue a little.
One page explains that post-master's certificates can be eligible, but that each program needs to be individually approved. Apparently, the certificate has to lead to gainful employment, and not just upgrading skills for a current position. Seeing as NP programs lead to a change in scope of practice, I think they pretty clearly qualify. But individual schools may have made the decision not to go through the process.
I will be starting my FNP-Certificate program at Olivet Nazarene University on February 2016.
How was the post master's program? I am trying to get into the 2.2017 cohort as I was just awarded my MSN from WGU. I read it was a 13 month program. Is it broken down into semesters? 6 weeks? I know you only have to take the core NP courses.
Hi Maryjean- I completed the WGU MSN leadership and management program and am now looking for an Online- FNP or DNP program / do you have any tips or information you can share?
