MPT at Oakland Community College

Published

Hi I have two more classes Microbiology and Sociology left to take and I have to take the MPT before getting onto the wait list in December. I have been practicing my math for the past month because I would like to take the test this month. I would like to know if any of you future nurses out there have taken the MPT and Oakland? Is it exactly like the MPT practice test? Are the questions set up the same way? Is it not multiple choice? Is there a question like the one on the practice test that says "percent" means? Thank you guys so much for your help!!

If you practiced for a month and used the practice test, you should be fine. I practiced for 2 weeks and did the math until I was comfortable enough to not look at the answers until I was done. If I remember correctly, there is no question regarding what a percent is. But, every test is different. It is multiple choice. It's pretty much like the practice test. There were a few tricky ones but I just used my best judgement. I hope this helps you! Good Luck! You'll do great!

Thanks! I'm glad its multiple choice that's nice. On the practice it wasn't so I was thinking it wasn't going to be on the actual test. I need to call and make my appointment to take it! I'm just nervous about it. Are you on the wait list now at OCC?

I'm not on the wait list. I am starting my second year in the Nursing program in September. I only have 4 classes left to graduate! Woo hoo! Once you start the program there will be math tests at the beginning of every semester. They are so easy once you learn the formulas. You'll learn all that in pharmacology. Good luck with your MPT! You'll do great!:nurse:

Oakland community college doesn't have a waitlist.....

Jugre I forgot to ask you how long did you wait till you got into the program and what was your gpa? thanks!

Im starting to form a plan for studying for the MPT. I am hoping to take it in Late May, anyone else out there getting ready for the MPT?

I know I'm like 2 years late on this post lol I just joined allnurses today. But, I have been studying for the MPT test as well and I plan to take it by November. I've taken all the pre-reqs for the program and all I have to do is the MPT test and I am a NERVOUS reck idk what to do!!! But, since its only 50 questions and multiple choice I should be okay. Is there Geometry or Trig on the test or is it just mainly fractions, equations, formulas, etc.? Thank you all soooo far in advance!:yeah:

Hi Joiride,

I am currently a first year nursing student at OCC and the MPT test is all about percents, fractions, decimals, ratios. There is nothing related to geometry or trig on the test. The questions are multiple choice. Every single test is different but, I had a question related to percent on my test. Actually it was on both my tests(I failed the first time I took it). Just make sure you practice your problems as much as you can. Let me know if you any other questions. Good Luck

Thank you! I did have another question I guess I could've asked my counselor but, I just thought about it smh. Do they just look at the grades from the 11 or so classes needed for the Nursing program and that is your GPA or all the classes you've taken at OCC period. I've taken all of the pre-reqs but, I've also taken some for my Medical Billing and Coding but, they dont' have anything to do with the requirements for the Nursing Program.

The only classes that count are your nursing prereqs. They take those grades into account for the gpa. All your other classes don't count at all. Lets says you had to take a chem, bio or math class because you didn't pass with a C in high school, those grades don't count either when they have to calculate the gpa. All you have to make sure you have are the requirements listed on the nursing checklist. Ask me any questions you want and hopefully I can help you.
