My name is sharon and I don't know if I am posting this in the right place. Hopefully a moderator can move this post if not!!! Hello I am wondering if I am able to get some advice please. I am looking at emigrating out to usa (Texas) next year. My husband is American and my son is, however my 17yr old and myself are not. I was just wondering I would like to continue with a career in nursing as I have only been qualified a year I was a late bloomer (44 today) I was an hca for 6 years and was seconded to do my nursing degree which I am proud to say I got with a 2:1. Anyway I work in A&E and was just wondering would it be best to go back to school in usa and top up or stay an extra year here?? How does it all work?? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you. Also my MIL is sponsoring me and my daughter with her salary so sponsorship isn't needed would be nice but not critical for our move. Just want some ideas as to when to apply for visa etc
thank you again. Sharon xxx
Ohhhh and do I take the NCLEX exam here first. Sorry for all the questions xxx

Starting point would be meeting their requirements and your transcripts must show clinical and theory hours in Paeds, Mental Health, Obstetrics and Adult. If you are short of any of these hours then you will not get permission to sit NCLEX. Currently no courses available in the UK to top up hours unless you do the 18 month bridge. In the US you may find it hard to find a nursing school willing to let you join just to make hours up but the only way to find out is to ring them and ask them (once you have a response from the state BON)
Texas requires CES report from CGFNS or other approved agency (list will be on the BON website and links to the various state BONs can be found at the bottom of the page)
Not sure how long it will take for you to get your immigrant visa but you are lucky to some as you are married to a US citizen. I would start the BON process now as it takes several months to go through before you know if you are eligible to sit NCLEX. If you are you can sit it in London UK or the US
Moving to Nurse Registration as discussing registering with a BON
Thank you for the advice. I have already emailed the texas state board and will telephone them tomorrow afternoon with my transcripts. Would it make any difference if I wait another year so 2 yrs qualified or not?? Will I still have to go through this extra top up?? Thank you again xx
No good telephoning them with your transcripts you need to complete application for CES or the other approved agency and get your transcripts broken down and then complete an application forum for the state. I have broken down the process as per the site BON website as well as posted link
A completed Application by NCLEX-RN® Examination consists of all fees,
Completed criminal history report,
Proof of passing scores of English Proficiency exam (if program was not conducted in English)
An original Credential Evaluation Service (CES) Full Education course-by-course report, sent directly from an approved organization
Verification of Licensure (VOL) form from all countries, states, provinces and/or territories you hold or have held a license. The
VOL must come directly from the licensing authority and must bear the authorities official seal

Your transcripts have to show the clinical and theory hours, just working an extra couple of years will not add the subjects to your transcripts
Hi thank you for this will look right into the CES. Please can I ask, I thought waiting another year so 2 yrs qualified would make things easier getting a job. However I not sure if that is true unless I have misunderstood. Sorry if I am hopeless. I am just confused about when to apply for spouse visa etc omg I feel like I am making things very difficult for myself thank you for all advice it really helps me :)
Am I right I can't apply for NCLEX until I know if I have to right credentials??? And on the CGFNS it says $350 or $150 for my transcripts to be broken down?? Sorry I am hopeless x
Don't worry it's $350 I didn't read it properly xx
Having experience will help however I suspect most US hospitals will pop you in a new grad bracket as you will not have US experience.
Suggest getting the academic CES report which is $385 and you can not apply for NCLEX until you get eligibility to sit the exam from the state

Thanks Silverdragon that does make sense!! Can I ask for own personal wadvice then please!! There is no point in waiting then really is there shall I just start the visa process now?? If I have to do extra when I get to the US then I have to. Fingers crossed I don't and can sit exam before I leave but I not going to stay an extra year for no reason :)
As for the CES the Bon texas recommends three sites and two are $350 I will just pay it and get it done as I need to get it done anyway for when we move out there. Thank you again
I personally would get CES from CGFNS because if you plan on further education once in the US most universities requires CGFNS so already done makes things easier.
Up to you when you start the process but for immigrant visa probably looking at 8-12 months anyway so they can run along side each other
