Hello,
I am looking for any advice, help suggestions from anyone that is familiar with DFW and/or Austin. My family and I (hubby and two children) will be moving to Texas from Maryland w/in the year. I am a new RN grad and we are torn btwn the DFW area and the Austin area. I am wanting to get into NICU/ labor and delivery. What area is the best for living, cost of living and raising a family? We will be planning a trip to Texas and renting a car and checking out the areas but anything from anyone would be great! How long of a drive is it btwn DFW and Austin? Thanks...
Can anyone share their average utility bills for things such as electric, H2O, sewer, gas, etc.? We think about moving out there all the time (almost did over the summer, but ended up in PA).Thank you!
Electric (for a 2500 sq. foot house in the summer) can run as high as about 250.00. For a two story house you should plan for at least 300.00 + in the summer.
Average electric in fall is about 160-200.00 (still quite hot until October !)
Utilities: water, sewer = around 40-50.00
Gas= 40-60.00. (we just have a gas water heater and fireplace)
I'm a single person without kids, so my bills might be lower than the average family.Can anyone share their average utility bills for things such as electric, H2O, sewer, gas, etc.? We think about moving out there all the time (almost did over the summer, but ended up in PA).Thank you!
Electric = about $60 monthly
Gas = most of the newer homes have all electric hook-ups; if you are referring to vehicle gasoline it was $2.49 per gallon yesterday
Water and trash = mine averages about $35 monthly
Property taxes = anywhere from $2,500 to $4,500 yearly, but there's no state income taxes in Texas

Thanks for the response! We're currently paying $160-200 per month for all utilities, which really surprised me. We moved to PA from AZ and payed much more in AZ. I was really impressed by the Fort Worth area. Thanks again!
