Moving to Tampa in July

U.S.A. Florida

Published

After several trips to the Tampa area I have finally accepted an RN position in Tampa. I will be moving to the area in July and have found several beautiful apartments to live in however I am wanting a roommate :) Do any of you know of any Tampa roommate sites for young professionals? I have browsed a little at Craigslist and it's all pretty much renting from houses and I would just like to sign a lease at an actual apartment.

Also how difficult is it to transfer my RN licesne to florida? Thanks!!

You have to have atleast 15 posts to be able to send a pm. Grand Central is nice and located right in downtown, and Hyde Park is a nice area also. TGH is a great place to work (I may be a bit biased :))!!! Call and talk to a recruiter because right now we are officially on a hiring freeze but are hiring for certain positions ( I don't believe they are all listed). Good luck!!!!! :D

Hey... I moved here a few weeks ago and absolutely love it. TGH is a really good place to work and everyone is really nice. Good luck with your move and if you have any questions feel free to PM me :)

Good to hear back from you! Congrats on the move & the job!!!

I cannot PM just yet..... I'm so timid about posting lol.

I'm getting there.

I was wondering, here in OH no-one seems to know what an RN recruiter even is... I think I've got the idea - something like a temp service, but I wanted to ask if you used one?

I had applied to TGH about 4 months ago - and they called me back and said that they would be very interested in interviewing me, but that I needed to contact HR when I was closer to Graduation. Now I'm worried that if I don't go through a Recruiter maybe I won't get the same Differentials etc....

What does everyone think? Is it better to go through the Hosp directly or through a Rec.? I also need to make sure that my position will work with me when I go to school - so do you think that it's poss. to do an internship, or are they pretty set scheds?

Sorry - so many quests, I just don't want to contact the Hosp. until I have def. info, dates, etc.

THANKS all!

Again Congrats Tampa Girl! :yeah:

TGH has their own nurse recruiting office that is on the 3rd floor (they are TGH employees). When you call the hospital ask for nurse recruiting and they can answer your questions, and tell you what you need to do next.

NGreen - Thanks for clearing that up!!

Maybe that's why no-one here seems to know what I'm talking about lol!

So - just to be clear, are there RN recruiters outside the hospitals there in FL, and is there benefit in using them?

Thanks - I learn so..... much from you guys!! I've been spying on this board for over 3 years now! I gasp when I find nursing students who don't know about this place - it is such a great resource!

Thanks again! :yeah:

Not that I am aware of but I have been at TGH for 10 years. I have friends that have applied and are working at other hospitals in the Tampa area, and the nurse recruiters that they went through were RN's employed by those hospitals. :D

TGH has had a few hiring freezes this year, and what it seems to mean is that you have to be really persistent. Apply online for whatever you're interested in, then call HR and follow up a few days later. If you're told they aren't currently hiring new grads for that position, ask what you are allowed to apply for. If they tell you nothing right now, ask when they expect to start hiring again. I missed it if you said when you were going to graduate (Misty). I wasn't interviewed until after I graduated, and then hired about a week later - but I had applied several months in advance.

What is the commuting time from TGH and St. Joseph's to Hyde Park and Channel Side?

Also, are these hospitals primarily 8 or 12 hour shifts?

Thanks!

Hyde Park s really close to TGH I just moved here last year so I am not familiar with a lot of things yet.I work in the nicu 50 something beds and very busy. We have 8 hrs and 12 hrs shifts. I think all depends where you want to work. I like the nicu is always busy and always crazy...that's just me...If u need any other help let me know...I'll be more than glad to help you. harold.

If you are still looking for a roomate, try roomates.com- I prefer that site to craigslist.

TGH is less than five from both places. St Joes is 10-15 from both depending on traffic and which way you go. TGH has 8's and 12's. St Joes only has 12's unless you get an outpt position or a home health position through Baycare.

Thanks for all of the responses! I actually found a roomie and a place in Hyde Park so I am super excited to move down... I grew up in Georgia so the hot weather doesn't bother me and I am going to love living so close to downtown and bayshore!! See y'all in July ;)

Hi did you ever find a roommate and move to Florida? I will be graduating also and hopefully moving down to Tampa when I finish. I am currently looking for positions at TGH in ICU, but not having any luck. I do hope to move down there asap. How is hyde park? Is that where you said you were going? -Monica
