Moving to Tampa in July

After several trips to the Tampa area I have finally accepted an RN position in Tampa. I will be moving to the area in July and have found several beautiful apartments to live in however I am wanting a roommate :) Do any of you know of any Tampa roommate sites for young professionals? I have browsed a little at Craigslist and it's all pretty much renting from houses and I would just like to sign a lease at an actual apartment.

Also how difficult is it to transfer my RN licesne to florida? Thanks!!

Apply for your FL license online now; it can take 4-6 wks (and longer so I've heard). Apps are online; if you've only held a license in one state it shouldn't take too long for FL BON to verify but the verification can be the hold up. FL offers a temp permit to practice but it stil takes a little while.

Where will you work in Tampa? I applied at TGH and ST Joe. I also checked out craigslist for room shares; sorry I don't know any other suggestions for apt shares. Good luck on your new job and welcome to FL!

Thanks, I'll def. apply for my license today then... I'll be working at TGH :) I'm very excited to start there!! Craigslist makes me a little nervous but I guess I'll give it a try!

hi again ...I worked today and looked in the hospital board..there were a couple of postings about people looking for roomates. These postings are inside the hospital so I am sure they are safe. one had a telephone number is 813-3178114.....there are pictures of the apartment and it looks nice. the other has an email address and I know here do not post them but i'll try anyway [email protected]. good luck and I hope it helps you.

Thanks so much :) I am hoping to move into apartments in the Hyde Park area because it is so close to work and looks like a fun area. Now I just need my FL license to get approved!!

Hi jbeachgrl, I have grown up in South Tampa and have worked at TGH for ten years. I have started the critical care rotation program. I highly recommend you to stay away from craigslist when looking for a roomie. I don't think it is safe and there was a news report about two week ago about people using it as a form of prostitution (not saying that everyone on there is bad). I am not sure if you can access it online but there is a book called the apartment guide that lists all the area apartments along with prices. Like the previous post said, there are always listings at the facility for roommates and rentals, etc. Hyde Park is a very fun area but can be pricey. Davis Islands has apts within walking distance of the hospital but they too can be pricey. a one bedroom can run you from $750-well over a thousand. Feel free to pm me if you need to. Welcome to Tampa and TGH!!!!!!!!! :yeah:

Hi jbeachgrl

The Hyde Park Area is very nice. I've actually been living in Hyde Park

for awhile. The neighborhood is very safe, low crime rate, ect. Plus very close to TGH. Good luck to you! TGH is a wonderful place. I've heard only nice things about it, I'm sure you'll love it there.

Thanks for all of the responses! I actually found a roomie and a place in Hyde Park so I am super excited to move down... I grew up in Georgia so the hot weather doesn't bother me and I am going to love living so close to downtown and bayshore!! See y'all in July ;)

Hyde Park is a nice area. There are a lot of restaurants and bars that are walking distance and you're very close to TGH. Downtown is more of a business district than a party spot excluding Channel Side. Bayshore has a nice view but when it's low tide it smells like the sewer.

Once you get down here you'll find a lot of neat places to go that aren't to far from where you'll be living. Good luck with the new apartment and job.

Jbeachgrl - did you move yet? I cannot figure out how to PM - I'm thinking I need to pay for Platinum???

Anyhoo, wondering how it's going? I plan to move from OH in Sept - I'm looking at The Grand Central @ Kennedy - Channelside/ or condos in Hyde Park.

I'm also looking to work at TGH, and start the RN-MSN program at USF next year.

Hope all is going well!!!!
