Moving once I become a lpn

Published

Right now we live in Michigan. My husbands job just let them know that on Jan. 1 2009 their jobs will go to anothe cheaper company. I just want to finish up school then move. The state recently announced that a loan program for college students will no longer be offered in Michigan, leaving thousands of students to scramble to find funding.

Once I become an LPN can I move to another state and take the test and then work there? We are moving out of this state as soon as I am done with school. What would be a good state to go to? My husband does construction. Thanks.

I completed my schooling in California, and took NCLEX in Texas after moving there in late 2005.

If your husband is in the construction industry, I'd highly recommend moving to one of the Sunbelt states.

Philadelphia, PA is a great city for nursing and I have heard of lots of opportunity for construction/home renovation.

Not sure exactly what you mean, since you don't become an LPN until you "take the test" (you're talking about the NCLEX-PN, right?) You only need to take the NCLEX once, and it doesn't matter where you take it. If you will be finishing school in time to get licensed before you move, you can get licensed in MI and then endorse your license to whatever state you decide to move to. Or, if you already know where you will be going by the time you graduate, you can apply for initial licensure in that state. But you still will only need to take the NCLEX once, and which state you physically take it in is purely a matter of your convenience and timing involved ...

Hair Tie,

You gave so little information. Do you have children? Does Hubby want to go to school for some special training? The Sunbelt is a good choice but I hear lots of talk about the whole state of Nevada too. Louisiana and Mississippi are still rebuilding from Katrina. Remember, wages are very different in the South, so do not be surprised to be quoted a lower wage than you expect. Also, once you and hubby talk, you can use this site, under Resources to check out BON in other states to check on what you need to do to take the test there.

Good luck.
