Hello Montana!
I seem to get mixed reviews about living in Montana! Thinking about moving to the Bozeman area, as it seems like one of your bigger cities and may be easier to find work? Have also been considering Idaho Falls, but feel Montana may be better. I am a General Pediactric RN that works in Outpatient care. Did my share of hospitial work but hated working holidays and every other weekend so private practice seemed the way to go for me. Whats the job situation like? Pay scale? I am living in Boston, married and in my early 30s, and my husband and I are looking for a slower pace of life. Would like to find a small town where the views are spectacular and there is lots of wildlife around. Any thoughts of a place to live, close to Bozeman? My husband is in the kitchen cabinet/countertop business- any need for this out your way? I thank you in advance!!!

I live in Missoula myself. No one makes enough money here but the scenery is beautiful!

...we just vacationed in Yellowstone, Butte and Helena. Loved it all!! Plan to do some travel nursing out that way after the husband retires. Good luck to you in your search.
Hi Jackie,
Went to Yellowstone last month and thats when we fell in love! Didnt visit any surrounding towns, but can only assume that Montana is fabulous! We will be going out there in the spring for a visit. Boston has become too busy, and my husband and I are too young for all this stress! Good luck to you and your husband. Tell him to hurry up and retire so you can enjoy life!

Bozeman is a university town (long ago was known as "Boozeville" due to lots of college drinking/partying) and at one time (again long ago) had the best nursing education in the state. Beautiful area, great for raising families, and hope you like snow. Salary wont even come close to Boston and MT taxes are very high. Billings (about 200 miles east) is the largest city in the state and has two excellent medical centers where you might find a more variety of job opportunities.
Oh Bozeman isn't all that bad. lol. I would definately recommend planning on visiting different areas of Montana. Eastern Montana is very different from Western Montana. The University of Montana in Missoula was voted a great party school not too long ago but I don't think we really party any more than any other college town.

Hi-
I currently live in RI but grew up in Bozeman and most of my family is still there. It is absolutely gorgeous!!
Down sides (at least for me). Pay is low and real estate (in the Bozeman area) has gotten very, very high. Being a sole wage earner, I really can't even consider moving back - unless I want to live with my parents, which I don't!
Everyone's situation is different though and if you can make it work - go for it! You may want to get on http://www.realtor.com and check out the real estate in the area.
Good Luck!

Hi all! I wrote a few months ago about the possibility of moving to MT and it has happened! In particular I have been in Bozeman for a couple of weeks now and can tell you it is certainly gorgeous.. I have been awed by the scenery over here and the wildlife is right at your doorstep.. I have also been looking for a house around the area and I'm not sure about Boston's prices but I imagine they are comparable which may be surprising. There is an interesting dynamic here that i"m sure you've seen that people don't make much money but things are still quite expensive..
It's cheaper to buy a house by far than rent one! Apartments are pretty decent-you'll find a lot of duplexes here..
Bozeman has a large student population and the prices for housing are more expensive than you would think, look at the paper for sure as often as you can beforehand. But, if you're looking for newer places to live (I'm renting at the moment) Bozeman and the city next to it, Belgrade, have more available than what I've seen in Helena or other areas (although still very very expensive).. Check into Belgrade as well-a new community that is developing 5 miles from Bozeman..
I just moved with my fiancee 2500 miles from a large city too, it sounds daunting but if you have Montana in mind, I would at least give it a shot if you can even visit-especially you like the outdoors/recreational activities and extremly friendly people..

I have talked to several facilities in Montana and the pay scale is comparable to what it is in downtown Atlanta. Does it just depend on what the starting rate is?
