  1. Looking to move to the Denver, CO area from Boston. From what I hear, finding a job shouldnt be too difficult, but i'm having a hard time deciding on a location! My husband and I love the mountains and wouldnt mind having the wildlife at our back door. Have to be close to a bigger city though, for work purposes of course. We heard Evergreen may be up our alley, but I heard the winters are mild and my husband just loves the snow! Is there any place near evergreen that gets alot of snow, as he loves to snowmobile? We wouldnt mind travelling an hour or two. I almost have him convinced but promised him I would find him some snow! Im sure someone out there help me find some snow!! Thanks a bunch!
  2. Hi Hope, I live about 20 minutes south of Boston right now. Born and raised down in Cape Cod and then moved closer to the city for college, and I have been stuck here ever since! My husband and I cant wait to make it out west. Wyoming seems a little difficult, so we have been thinking about montana, around Bozeman. So you love Colorado? Whats the weather like in the summer/winter? How come you chose Colorado? Its definately a possibility for us and thats why this forum is so great! We just know we can't live here forever. We dont have kids yet, and would like to get "settled" before we take that on! We have a trip planned to wyoming in July '06, for a nursing conference in Jackson Hole and will do a lot of driving to check out as much as we can. Do you think most nurses have jobs set up before they relocate? It would be nice, but we want to move so bad that we may just wing it! Let me know about Colorado, ok???? :) Thanks, Grasshopper
  3. Hi Nickle, Kudos to you for such great info! For some reason, Im thinking that wyoming may NOT be the place for us, perhaps a little too risky for my blood. Have been thinking about the possibility of Montana, close to the wyoming boarder. This is such a great forum for us nurses and I appreciate all your help!! Grasshopper
  4. Hi Jackie, Went to Yellowstone last month and thats when we fell in love! Didnt visit any surrounding towns, but can only assume that Montana is fabulous! We will be going out there in the spring for a visit. Boston has become too busy, and my husband and I are too young for all this stress! Good luck to you and your husband. Tell him to hurry up and retire so you can enjoy life! QUOTE=jackie53]...we just vacationed in Yellowstone, Butte and Helena. Loved it all!! Plan to do some travel nursing out that way after the husband retires. Good luck to you in your search.
  5. Although I have been a nurse for 10 years now, I certainly remember what it was like starting out on the med/surg unit- my stomach was sick for months! Dont stress yourself out about going in early to read charts. If you feel this is helpful for now, thats ok, but as you build your confidence, you will be able to handle it all just fine. And YES, you should be looking up meds! You are a great, safe nurse for doing so. Ive seen pleanty of seasoned nurses not look up meds and then make mistakes. I still do my "3 checks" with meds, all these years later! If your preceptor and you dont see eye to eye, talk to your nursing supervisor about it. She may be understanding enough to place you with a kinder person. After all , nursing supervisors HATE errors on behalf of their staff and want new nurses to learn the right way. You will learn after a certain amout of time that there are just "those" nurses out there that feel like they know everything and dont want to bother teaching others. Ive had my run in with PLENTY. I still have my fellow nurses check my math sometimes, just to be safe. Stick to your guns and dont let anyone walk over you! Good Luck, but it doesnt sound like you will need it! (:
  6. Hello! So did you ever find your way to montana? I am considering moving to Bozeman in the spring and figured I would check in with you to see how you like it out there. Im from Boston so it would be a huge move for me. Let me know how you like it! Thanks!
  7. Rohan, What a great website! Thank you! I would love to hear your own thoughts about the area. It sounds like a beatiful place to be, just what I am looking for. (:
  8. Hello Montana! I seem to get mixed reviews about living in Montana! Thinking about moving to the Bozeman area, as it seems like one of your bigger cities and may be easier to find work? Have also been considering Idaho Falls, but feel Montana may be better. I am a General Pediactric RN that works in Outpatient care. Did my share of hospitial work but hated working holidays and every other weekend so private practice seemed the way to go for me. Whats the job situation like? Pay scale? I am living in Boston, married and in my early 30s, and my husband and I are looking for a slower pace of life. Would like to find a small town where the views are spectacular and there is lots of wildlife around. Any thoughts of a place to live, close to Bozeman? My husband is in the kitchen cabinet/countertop business- any need for this out your way? I thank you in advance!!!
  9. Im so happy to hear that swan valley is so beautuiful! We wont get a chance to get out there to visit until the spring, but am so looking forward to a quieter lifestyle, as Boston seems to be one of the busiest places in the country! I practice general peds, but have done my share of hospital work. I didnt like having to work every other weekend at the hospital, so private practice seemed the way to go and I love having my weekends and holidays free! How spoiled I have gotten! Im hoping there will be some great job opportunities when I get out there. When you moved, did you already have a job set up, or did you just wing it? Im up for the challenge either way! Thanks again! Leah
  10. Hi Lisa, Thanks for your input, and yes, it does help! We are heading out to Idaho next spring for a visit. Cant seem to make it out there earlier although I am anxious to get things going. Im glad you have found such a wonderful place to live. Im from Boston and am certainly looking forward to a slower pace! Thanks again, Leah
  11. hi Superschool, Your reply was so informative! Do you have any thoughts on living in the Idaho Falls area? Have you ever visited Swan Valley? Looking to relocate there from Boston, and was looking for someplace with lots of greens and mountains. Your input would be nice! Thanks. :)
  12. Hi Mariaern, My best friend lives on Nantucket(born and raised) so I have been there quite often. VERY busy place in the summer and very quiet in the wintertime. Cost of living is high unless your job sets you up with some cheap housing, if there is such a thing over there! Restaurants are expensive too as well as shopping. My friend takes the boat from Nantucket into Woods Hole once a month to do food shopping at places like BJ's so she can buy bulk. The grocery stores over there are SOOOO expensive. I cringe every time I do groceries with her! She also does her clothing shopping off island. They dont have a mall on nantucket, but there are alot of small boutiques that are lovely but unfortunately expensive. All in all, a beautiful, quaint place to be, but you need alot of cash to live there. Not sure what the Nurses make, but I hope this helps.
  13. I am an outpatient pediatric RN looking to move to swan valley next year. anyone know the deal with jobs out there? Are there some good nursing jobs to find in Idaho Falls area? How is the swan valley area? Nice place to live? Looking for someplace quiet to live, with lots of wildlife. Im sure someone out there can help! Thanks!
  14. Hi ! Visisted Yellowstone Park last month and fell in love. We are planning on relocating next year. Any advice on the best places to live? We are looking for a quiet town with lots of wildlife. I guess we have to be close to a big city in order to find jobs? I am a Pediatric outpatient RN and work in a doctors office ; my husband works in the kitchen cabinet business. How is the job situation out there? Salary? I would love any input you could offer. We are so ready to go!! Thanks!
