Mountain View Spring 2020 application.

Published

Hello everyone I am just starting a thread to see if anyone else plans on applying to Mountain View in the fall for spring 2020. Or anyone who goes there how many points should I strive for to get into the programs. Hope to hear from y’all.

Just out of curiosity, the first semester of the program, the list of courses says that we'll take pharmacology or pathophysiology. Does this mean if I've taken pharmacology, then I'm not required to take patho?

Or if you took both classes then you wouldn't take either? This is an interesting bit of information. Let me know what you find out @Ozzy

I saw earlier that someone posted that the program is 24 months, however, I've read other places its 18 months. So which one is it? This was a factor in deciding if i was going to do mountain view.

Yes! I was wondering the same thing. But when I asked the women who were interviewing me they kind of said it’s almost up to the student like if they’re passing or not. I’ve also taken both Patho and pharm so I’m happy about that

If you have taken both patho/pharm prior to admissions then you're good, they won't ask you to repeat the same courses. What confuses me is "or" part, which suggests if one is taken then the other isn't required. I've taken pharm but not patho.

Technically it is both. The program is 18 months of class time but we're off during summers, which makes it 24 months. During the interview, I brought up the concurrent enrollment idea and the interviewers told me that students take advantage of the summer by taking courses with Texas Tech.

Thanks for clearing that up for me!

Concurrent enrollment?

Yes, MVC college has concurrent enrolment with Texas Tech Elpaso for those who want to knock out BSN courses out of the way and seamless transition to BSN upon graduation--all Taxes Tech courses are online. The only requirement is to have a minimum of 45 college credits (any sort of credit) and be accepted into the RN program at MVC or BHC. When I compared Texas Tech RN to BSN with UTA, I figured that Taxes Tech is advantageous for having fewer courses for RN qualified applicants. Brookhaven has a similar deal going on.

I hope you'll got the "Next Step" email from the director.

Any idea of how to get ready for nursing school? Tips, tricks, and resources to read, brush up, and tools to acquire in advance? I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but it's better to be overprepared than underprepared. "Success is when preparation meets opportunity."

My brother who's a psych nurse told me to do the following:

1. learn as much as you can about the major classes of drugs and ADRs (safety is paramount in nursing).

2. Study drug calculations (this should be easy).

3. Study basic assessments.

4. Get the tools you need and familiarize yourself with how to utilize them.

I've zero experience in healthcare--so I'm a bit cognizant of this fact.

Cheers!

After the two courses are completed and you finish the ADN program, I wonder how long it would take you thereafter to finish? I might call Texas Tech and inquire more about that.

If you choose to finish one of the two classes during the ADN program, you'll have a transitional semester before you start at TT as an actual degree seeker and that is to complete your 2nd course and pass the NCLEX. So I'm pretty sure you'll have one transitional semester before starting even with both courses done. All pending on NCLEX exam.

Awesome. Please share with us what you find out. When I looked into it a while ago and I compared UTA online vs Texas Tech, Texas Tech seemed to have fewer course load and I'm assuming faster completion timing. Besides, 6 credit out of the way counts for something at a minimum (6 out of 30 = 20% out of the way). Texas Tech requires 30 credits for BSN. UTA online requires 35 credits and no concurrent enrolment credit--so it's reasonable to assume Texas Tech to offer faster BSN attainment.
