  1. Has anyone gotten their skills pack we ordered online (addressed to school) or we'll just pick up the first day of classes? I ordered mine about a weak ago and I'm a bit nervous. Things to bring the first day of school: 1. Penlight 2. Stethoscope 3. PB Cuff 4. Watch with a second hand 5. Medical scissors 6. Black pens & pencils Uniform: 1. Scrubs 2. White shoes Am I missing anything? I just came back from a 45-day international trip and got sidetracked for a while, any input is greatly appreciated!
  2. Those costs are racking up really fast. Be sure to save receipts for next year's tax deductions!
  3. The academic ranking (grade letters of prerequisite/supporting courses) is rather clear, what isn't clear, however, is the non-academic ranking (interview and the written sample). In my estimation, the interview and the written sample constitute a significant portion of admissions consideration. Dress well and prepare well for the written sample and interview, this could potentially get you in with weak academic points, or guarantee you admission with strong academic points. I've read some students with excellent academic points but got denied because of poor performance on interviews or writing samples. My suggestion is that, aim for strong academic points and ace the interview and the written sample and acceptance will be a breeze. In my recollection, the MVC nursing program received 150 applicants for the Spring 2020 cohort and 50 were accepted, that's 33% acceptance rate--a rather high acceptance rate for a nursing program. Being a male might give one an edge as schools strive for diversity. All the males I've seen during my interview were incidentally accepted. Nursing is a historically female-dominated profession, thus, gender might account for something (but don't rely on it though). Hope this was useful to you!
  4. Got the uniform ordered today. Got 2 tops and bottoms; 2 jackets (blue/white); scissors, penlight, PB cuff---for a grand total of $198.57. They gave me a 20% off for the order. I hope this gross estimate gives some of you an idea of what to expect. This nursing supplies thing is adding up quickly and drying up my checking account. Good luck everyone and happy holidays!
  5. I went to the bookstore today to order the book pack. The cost is $568.10 (taxes included). I was told that the supplies are coming within the next 7 days or so, but will be sold as a first-come-first-served basis (they could theoretically run out) or if an incorrect supplies info was given to the bookstore or someone messed up along the way. So, it might be wise having your order placed as soon as you can. I'm heading out overseas soon, if you are in a similar circumstance, it might be wise to order your supplies before you leave. I just thought to share this just in case it might benefit some of you! Any word on the uniform? Has anyone gotten theirs yet?
  6. It was nice meeting you all during the success camp! Following items needs to be obtained or done before the first day of class: 1. School ID 2. Uniform 3. skills pack 4. White shoes 5. Stethoscope 6. Watch (with a second hand) 7. PB cuff 8. plain scrubs 9. Penlight 9. Must have read Chapter 1, and done all the med calculations. Am I missing anything?
  7. Has anyone gotten a confirmation email back from the nursing director after emailing the acceptance on Oct. 31 as was required? Just curious if I'm the only one who hasn't heard anything back. Thank!
  8. Thanks for the update, really appreciated! Good to know. Thanks for the info!
  9. I'm interested in the PDF files of the material you've. Saunders for the NXCLEX I was told is the bible for nursing. What do I have to do to obtain the files? Here's my email [email protected]. Thanks.
  10. Has anyone figured out how to obtain insurance coverage? Thanks!
  11. I like your thinking. My brother who obtained BSN from 4 yr institution told me that he rarely opened the books required for the college and stopped buying the books by the second semester of the first yr of nursing school. He told me, the info taught can be obtained by googling, powerpoint, etc., and that it's way more efficient that way. So, I'm a bit hesitant dishing out nearly $1400 when there's no need for it.
  12. Thanks for the correction. But yeah, MVC still gives you longer class time and summers off.
  13. Has anyone figured out how to obtain insurance coverage? Thanks!
  14. Just in case you've not already thought about this: it takes 24 months for MVC versus 18 months at Brookhaven. In my view, a pressed schedule should be taken into account for ease of successful completion.
