Mount St. Mary's College LA - Accelerated BSN 2010

Published

This is a new thread for anyone that has applied to the Mount St. Mary's College Accelerated BSN program in Los Angeles for 2010 entry.

This is my second application for admission since I wasn't offered admission for Fall 2009. Did anyone hear anything back yet for Spring 2010? Is there an interview process? I have read conflicting information on this topic. I also applied to Samuel Merritt in the Bay Area (also turned down twice to 2 programs for Fall 2009 entry). They wont be sending out admission offers until February for March start dates!! Would love to hear from fellow nursing school hopefuls :o)

Good luck to all you!!

Betsy

Not reading the entire book is dishonest :)

Has anyone from the last cohort taken Bio-ethics at MSMC? If so, what did you think about it? Is it too hard to take that class concurrently with all the ABSN coursework?

Bio ethics is very very easy at Taylor. Just put in the work, get it done, no need to read the whole book, just get the main point of what they are saying. Build a thesis and crank out crap to meet the requirement. He is very right wing. But very easy

Clinicals are at UCLA for first semester.

Thanks kb98765.

I know the Taylor class was easy with the old professor... I've just heard mixed reviews about the new one. I'm sure it'll be fine :)

Not reading the entire book is dishonest :)

hahaha...it's sometimes necessary. you'll understand why when you start school. ;)

i was just talking to a lady who is in the program for may 09 cohort right after my interview and she was just wanna cry as she tells her story about the program. She said" I lost my life " since she got in and she didnt even have time to her family and friends. the program itslef is gonna kick our ??? . I was just, OOOhhhh, Im start to get scared now

I'm going to say this is only partly true as it depends on the individual. I just graduated with the May class and outside of the 1st semester and 2nd session of the third semester, I had time to spend with friends and family. It's about time management but really, some people can study the night before (or morning of) an exam and still do very well. Others may need every moment of free time to prepare. Odds are, a few people will fail a class and have to catch up with the next cohort. Only you know your strengths and weaknesses in regards to study and homework habits. One other thing, get used to hearing "B's and C's get degrees." You will get sick of hearing it.

Some advice, take bio-ethics now. You save a ton of money and it frees up time that you could otherwise use for studying, sleeping, eating, whatever. It's a semester long class (2nd semester) wedged in between two other classes. I took it through Taylor with the previous instructor.

Good luck and don't worry about the math test, it's easy.

@princess - Drug calculations was 8 weeks at SMC and fairly easy. Just remember the 4 formulas and you'll be fine. You get to use calculators for the class.

I was handed the magazine to read while I waited for my interview and got the card to get me out the door. I just got my books for the Taylor class on Friday (Thanks, BNICE). If anyone needs the books I have an extra set on its way already to me which I'm willing to sell. I plan on starting the first paper after the end of this week, giving myself 2 weeks for the first one.

My new addiction has begun, checking the admission status on MSMC's web advisor site. LOL

I'm with you on that!!

Does anyone know when the program starts if/when we get in this fall? Is it in August or September?

I was told the program begins August 23, and there will be an orientation before it starts.
