This is a new thread for anyone that has applied to the Mount St. Mary's College Accelerated BSN program in Los Angeles for 2010 entry.
This is my second application for admission since I wasn't offered admission for Fall 2009. Did anyone hear anything back yet for Spring 2010? Is there an interview process? I have read conflicting information on this topic. I also applied to Samuel Merritt in the Bay Area (also turned down twice to 2 programs for Fall 2009 entry). They wont be sending out admission offers until February for March start dates!! Would love to hear from fellow nursing school hopefuls )
Good luck to all you!!

I know. Sign-ups for the bioethics class in Seattle is 5/24. I figured interview, I'd sign up for it and if no interview then why waste my money. Not knowing anything really makes it hard. I'm calling Seattle on Monday to find out if I can withdraw and how much that will cost in the end and how long I can withdraw without a W on my record.
The Fall cohort starts at the end of August, right?
It would be nice to know something. If we find out in June, that only gives 2 months to secure financing. Has anyone been able to apply for major financial aid or scholarships without already knowing the school they are attending? I'm finding that many applications are asking this question so am unable to apply until I'm officially accepted. Or should I just state that I am attending this school and get the paperwork rolling?
Did you do the FAFSA back in March when you applied? When you fill out the FAFSA you list all the schools you applied to for the year (MSMC). Then when we're accepted (finger crossed) the financial aid department helps you figure out which loans are best for you. But Federal Financial Aid only covers the first $25 K, but the financial aid person said they recommend places to aqcuire the rest of the loans and where to apply for the large scholarships. Have you checked out discovernursing.com? They have a lot of resources for paying for nursing school.
Yes, I did all that. Sorry, perhaps I wasn't clear. When applying for other sources of financial aid and private scholarships, many of the applications ask where you are attending school. Since I have yet to be actually accepted anywhere, I have not been able to apply to many of these outside sources. I'm afraid that by the time we find out that we have been accepted, that many of these types of scholarship deadlines will already have passed. What are other people doing when filling out applications for private scholarship opportunities? Are you saying you have been accepted or are currently attending?
Hi everyone!
I'm currently in my last semester of the ABSN program at the Mount. If there's one thing I'd really recommend to you guys, it is to TAKE THE BIOETHICS CLASS before you start the program. This will save you a lot of time during the program and allow time for studying in between classes. I planned on taking bioethics from Taylor University, but the timing didn't work out for me. I really regret it, because the students that already had it complete had an easier time. Good luck you guys!
MSMChopeful....... I will be taking the course at taylor university over the summer. Could you also advice us about the interview process? We have not heard anything regarding interview yet, but I was wondering if you could give some insight on what types of questions they asked you and if you had any pre-requisite courses IP while applying and what your GPA was? We are all scrambling for information because no one knows anything.
Sugarlips..... I don't know what is the best option for scholarships and such. I was pondering this to myself last night. The school is SO expensive and I want to know if there is any websites, scholarships anyone knows about that are worth applying to. What about loan reimbursement programs?
If anyone has any information regarding scholarships, loan forgiveness programs please post, any information would be SO helpful.
ATTENTION ALL.....
I just called MSMC and spoke with a lady at nursing admissions. She told me that they don't interview every applicant who has applied, and she wasn't sure how the distinguish which applicants they choose to interview. So.... I guess don't panic if you don't get an interview. She also said that she receives a list of those who they accepted sometime in June and that they do send letters out. She did not say when in June tho. I hope this helps.
Hi snwboardgrl,
Do you live near campus? Please PM me and we can work something out. As for the interview process, I know you guys are super anxious, as was I. Some interview questions I remember being asked were, Why do you want to be a nurse? Tell me about a situation you were in where you had to make an ethical decision, What past experiences have you had that will help you as a nurse? How do you deal with stress? And, how have you prepared yourself for the demands of this program? Hope that helps. And for our cohort, everyone who was accepted had an interview.
Thanks for the help MSMChopeful!
Snowboardgirl, they told us at the information session that not everyone gets an interview. The only ones that get an interview are those that are being considered for admission. However, not everyone that gets an interview is accepted, it's just the last step before they make their final decisions is how I interpreted it.

I konw, I thought for sure some people would start hearing about interviews this week. The suspense of waiting is crazy! I'd really like to know soon so I can to see if I should take that Bioethics course online over the summer. Hopefully we'll hear soon.
