This is a new thread for anyone that has applied to the Mount St. Mary's College Accelerated BSN program in Los Angeles for 2010 entry.
This is my second application for admission since I wasn't offered admission for Fall 2009. Did anyone hear anything back yet for Spring 2010? Is there an interview process? I have read conflicting information on this topic. I also applied to Samuel Merritt in the Bay Area (also turned down twice to 2 programs for Fall 2009 entry). They wont be sending out admission offers until February for March start dates!! Would love to hear from fellow nursing school hopefuls )
Good luck to all you!!

hey guys!
dont panic about the interviews! im currently in the May 2010-2011 cohort and things at the nursing office have been CRAZY BUSY!! we all applied november 1st and a lot of people didn't even get interviewed until mid-January!
they might send out interviews end of may after we all get situated with clinical placements, clearances, etc.
don't worry guys and gals! also, if your heart is set on attending MSMC, do take the bioethics NOW...it'll save you time and $$$!
also, for the person debating btwn MSMC and Concordia, I would recommend MSMC just because they have a very reputable nursing program they were the first school to offer the ABSN program back in 1997...or 1996...i forgot which year whereas concordia has only had their ABSN program for 2-3 years. just my two cents.
anyway, good luck everyone!!!
I agree 150% with Rocky's post. I am also in the May 2010 cohort and the admins are BEYOND busy since we all just started last week. We haven't even started our clinicals yet and one of our instructors had to back out this term due to a family emergency.
Our deadline for admission was November 1. We received invites just before MSM's Christmas break on December 15 for interviews in mid-January and we weren't notified of acceptance until February. Some people weren't offered interviews until the end of January/beginning of Feb and were notified the end of March!!
If your deadline was March 15, and you went by our timeline, you would expect to hear something around May 1st, but our cohort only started on May 10, which was last Monday!! And last week, was the May 2009 cohort's graduation. You have to realize this is a small college. The people that make the decisions and contact you for interviews are the same people that are getting our cohort situated and working with the other cohorts too. Some of us in the May 2010 cohort are finishing up paperwork and health clearances for clinicals. The admins are still in the process of getting us into clinicals next week so I am sure they are not thinking as far ahead as the next cohort. I highly doubt you will hear anything until at least June 1, or even mid-June.
I am only in my second week at MSM's and one thing I already learned - you can only take one day at a time or you will drive yourself crazy. So like Rocky suggested, take some time now (while you still have it) to complete the Bioethics course. Taylor University offers a self-paced online course that is approx $3000 cheaper than the course you would have to take at MSM's. That way, when you do get invited for the interview, you can tell them your Bioethics requirement is in progress and show them how prepared you are to begin the Fall ABSN program!!
I know how much you all want this...I applied twice before I got in. But the second time around I did things as if I was already accepted (before I even went on the interview). Positive thinking is a powerful thing!!
I know it's difficult to do but stop stressing and enjoy the summer. Remain positive. You will get that email sometime next month for an interview.
Hi All,
I just wanted to let you know I asked the office today if they had any interviews for the upcoming ABSN program and they said not until the the end of June. They are currently interviewing potential ADN students so no one has had an interview for the ABSN program. See nothing to worry about.
To those who are in the May 2010 cohort..... would you be so kind to shed some light on whether or not you had any courses in progress when you applied or anyone in your cohort that did. I know there are some questions regarding on whether or not this is a HUGE down fall or not. Thanks for the posts, we have been stressing out in regards to interviews so thanks for putting our minds at ease a little bit.
I saw that the final for the Taylor class requires a 25 page paper. I haven't written a paper like that in years and with work and other commitments, I'm not really sure I'll be able to do that plus the other required work for the class in only 8 weeks. The Seattle class' final is a submitted presentation with a 1500 word max, which is something I am more comfortable with at this time. However, the combined workload for this class seems to be just as time consuming. Either class is going to be trying. At least with nursing school, I'll be able to just focus on nursing school. Does anyone know more specifics about the Taylor class besides the final research paper? Like, how many books are involved, or weekly or daily assignments that are expected? For the Seattle class, I recently found out the professor has not gotten good ratings and saw the amount of weekly material we are expected to complete.
Hi Sugarlips,
Originally, I registered for the Bioethics class in Seattle b/c the Taylor one wasn't available when I wanted to take it. The admins told me the class was acceptable for Bioethics so I paid the money for registration and bought the books. I had my interview the same week the Seattle class started. After my interview, the director of the program called me to ask a few more questions and also wanted to let me know the Seattle Bioethics class was not acceptable for MSM's Bioethics requirement. She said it would be acceptable for an ethics class but not their bioethics requirement. Luckily, I was able to drop the class in time for a full refund, minus the cost of the books.
Taylor's class wasn't available for a few months b/c the instructor of the class had passed away and the school was in the process of finding a replacement. On March 17, the Taylor class finally became available again, so a few of us enrolled and completed it before May 10, when our program started. We did it in less than 7 weeks. Some people were working full time and still managed it. It just depends on how important it is for you to get it done. I am glad I did it and got it out of the way b/c I can't even imagine having to do something like that while being an ABSN student. You will have 0 time when you begin the program. Trust me.
For Taylor's class, there are 5 papers and one 25 page paper. And that is the entire class. No posting or commenting on questions. Just skim the books, and write a paper. If you do one paper a week and take 2 weeks for the long paper, you have plenty of time. There are 4 or 5 books. I think they were less than $100.

I'm thinking that they might not do interviews if it has already taken so long to hear back from them, although I base my opinion on nothing. I'm going on vacation in the middle of June and hopefully that won't conflict with anything.
