Mount St. Mary's College LA - Accelerated BSN 2010

Published

This is a new thread for anyone that has applied to the Mount St. Mary's College Accelerated BSN program in Los Angeles for 2010 entry.

This is my second application for admission since I wasn't offered admission for Fall 2009. Did anyone hear anything back yet for Spring 2010? Is there an interview process? I have read conflicting information on this topic. I also applied to Samuel Merritt in the Bay Area (also turned down twice to 2 programs for Fall 2009 entry). They wont be sending out admission offers until February for March start dates!! Would love to hear from fellow nursing school hopefuls :o)

Good luck to all you!!

Betsy

Hi sugarlips,

This is my first time reactivating too - hopefully my last . I got denied back in Fall '09, when most of my prereq's were still in process. Maybe I'll be in a better position now that they are complete (I hope I did this right)? Fingers crossed...

Thanks for the info, I'll keep you posted if I hear anything. Good luck to you!!

Hi All,

I just checked webadvisor and my status has changed to "Complete-In Review Process." It was updated yesterday (March 28th). Just letting you all know, so you guys can check your status.

My webadvisor account was finally updated to Complete-In Review Process today! One more step closer. Crossing fingers for all of us.

Yay, mine was updated too! :)

Now the waiting........

I have a question for those who are reactivating- If you had classes in progress when you first applied, how many were you still taking or needed to take? I'm taking my last two sciences, and am expecting there's a chance I won't get in based on what I've heard about classes still in progress.

Is there anyone who was admitted even though they had class(es) in progress (other than BioEthics)?

And any idea on the timeline or month for interviews, acceptance letter, etc for Fall 2010?

Thanks!

And good luck to everyone who is reactivating or applying for the first time!

Hi biscuitmama,

When I applied last Fall, I still had 2 sciences in progress, along with a religion, psych and nutrition (I knew it was a long shot). I'm not sure if that was the reason I did not get an interview... I heard that some others were accepted with sciences still in progress. I think it depends on the strength of your overall application.

I'm not sure about this year's timeline, but last Fall people received interview invitations in May, and acceptance letters in June. It was torture. haha.

Hang in there, good luck! :)

Hey, how's it goin everyone? My name's Paul and I've been lurking on these forums for a while.

I have applied for the fall 2010 Accelerated BSN program and I am currently "in review"...

After speaking with msmc's administration office, I was informed that we should hear back from MSMC by June for our admittance, and that we will get our interview

requests between now and then... Hahaha not too helpful..

Anyway, I'm hoping that I get in too... I'm currently taking microbiology and one religious studies course. No one is able to take bioethics at Taylor university because the only professor who taugh it (inconveniently) passed away.

I have all a's in my science prereqs (except for anatomy, which I got a b in, boooo). My gps at cal state Fullerton was around 3.4?

Anyway, I would like to think that I'm a competitive candidate, but who knows... I'm as nervous as y'all regarding acceptance in fall 2010.

Has anyone gotten an interview for fall 2010?

Actually, the Bioethics course at Taylor University is available again, they got a new professor. Myself and a few other classmates starting in May are taking the course right now. We have to finish it before we start school. So, if you're interested, you could sign up to take it now, although it costs $825, so you might want to wait until you're accepted before you start, just in case. I think we all started the class about 3 or 4 weeks ago.

ooh, that's awesome. i will definitely enroll in that course if/when i get accepted! that news just made my day!

bioethics is PHIL 410, right? i just wanna make sure that i enroll in the correct class. i am tremendously relieved that it's available again.

since we're on the topic of bioethics...

how long do you think that it would take to complete the whole taylor university course? six months? i heard that some people were able to finish the course in a month or so. does that seem possible? assuming i get accepted into the fall 2010 program in june, i'll have two months to complete the course prior to the start of the program. do you think that two months would be ample time to complete the course?

I think it can be done in 2 months, as long as you don't have too much else going on (like a full time job or something along those lines in terms of time consumption). I know of one student who started and completed the course all in the month of April before she started at the Mount last May. The website for the class has all the main course info, all it is is four 6-8 page papers and one 25-30 page paper. And it is Philosophy 410E.

I would say that anyone who's interested should definitely consider taking the course, because unless you already have a bioethics course on your transcript, you'll have to take the Mount Saint Mary's Bioethics class during the 2nd semester of the program, along with 18 nursing units. And tuition at MSMC is a flat rate for the first 18 units, and then $1160 for every unit after that (each semester). So, taking the class at MSMC would cost you just shy of $3500, as it's a 3 unit class.

Ok, now I have to stop procrastinating and get back to writing! Good luck everyone!

Wow, thanks for all that information, kkinla. Here I was thinking that I'd be taking it easy over this last summer of freedom. Guess not so much. However, weighing the consequences between taking it now versus taking it with 18 units already, I think it's worth the hard summer. Still hoping to get even an interview on this round.
