Mount St. Mary's College LA - Accelerated BSN 2010

Published

This is a new thread for anyone that has applied to the Mount St. Mary's College Accelerated BSN program in Los Angeles for 2010 entry.

This is my second application for admission since I wasn't offered admission for Fall 2009. Did anyone hear anything back yet for Spring 2010? Is there an interview process? I have read conflicting information on this topic. I also applied to Samuel Merritt in the Bay Area (also turned down twice to 2 programs for Fall 2009 entry). They wont be sending out admission offers until February for March start dates!! Would love to hear from fellow nursing school hopefuls :o)

Good luck to all you!!

Betsy

Hi everyone,

I can't wait to meet everyone soon. :) I got into the May cohort also!!

Thanks Dawn for giving us that update. I haven't even thought that far in advance, but definitely will look into that. Do you know if any of your classmates will be selling their books?

Right now I'm wondering where to take the bioethics class. I called Taylor University but they aren't offering it right now. Any suggestions out there?

Hi Nola Butterfly,

I attempted to find a Bioethics class too but didn't have any luck. I did find an online class at a school in Seattle and asked MSM's if it was acceptable. One person said it was, but after I registered I found out it wouldn't be accepted. Thankfully, it was before the drop deadline and I was able to get a refund of the $1300 I paid for the class. I wasn't able to get a full refund on the $150 I spent for books though b/c I bought them used. The school is very specific as to what type of class they will accept. If you find one, please keep us posted. I would like to take it prior to the program too, if possible.

Looking forward to meeting you in May.

Betsy

Hi All,

Thank you Dianah for that heads up. I took Bioethics at Cal State Los Angeles prior to the start of the program. It helps a LOT if you can get it out of the way before school starts. It will definitely lighten your load during the second semester.

So many people have responded to me via email and I wish I could write everyone back individually, but I don't have that kind of time so here's what I'm thinking about...

You guys have a lot of questions which is completely normal. Would any of you be interested in a Q&A at Mount Saint Mary's with current ABSN students? I think it would have helped us a lot and I can ask some of my friends to come so that you can get different perspectives. I do realize that all of you do not live in the area, but maybe you could email your questions to someone who can attend the Q&A and they can get back to you. This way, I can dedicate one hour or so and answer all of your questions at one time. It would really be the most effective way for me timewise and I think it'd be priceless for you guys.

Right now, my time is gold so if you're not interested in this, no problem. But if you are, I'll look into it and see if I can organize something soon because I'd be more than happy to put it together. Please respond to this thread so I can know whether or not to proceed with this idea.

Dawn

hi dawn,

i sent you a PM so hopefully you received it. if not, let me know so i can email it to you. thanks again for all your help! you're such a lifesaver!!!

Hey rocky16,

I did receive your PM and I definitely agree. I'm on it!

Thanks,

Dawn

Hi Dawn,

I'd love to PM you for the information on the reading but I'm not sure how...

Is the pathophysiology book you are talking about titled: Pathophysiology - Concepts of Altered Health States (7th edition) by Carol Mattson Porth?

Thanks SO much for your info.

Hi Everyone,

I've been out of the loop here for a bit due to a family emergency which is stable for right now.

CONGRATULATIONS to everyone who got accepted!!! That's fantastic.:D

And hang in there everyone else because, according to posts like this from last year, they sometimes let people know about acceptance from when they send out the first round up until the last minute.

I'm on the wait list and I feel good about that as I've been told that there usually is movement with the wait list. If not then I'm ready to reactivate my application in March for August.

Fingers crossed and good vibes a plenty that I get in for May! Hope to meet you all soon. :heartbeat

Hi again everyone!

Just wondering about some more requirements for the program. I was told at one point by a counselor that the math test is something that people who are admitted actually take once they are in the program. I've also heard that if you don't pass it before the program begins that they can deny acceptance. It looked like from their website that if you don't pass it, you have to agree to a certain number of hours of tutoring.

Does anyone have more information about this?

Thanks!:nurse:

Dear Dawn:

Thank you, thank you for such valuable insight and suggestions! When you said, "purchase the patho/med-surg textbook and start reading NOW!", I am wondering what is the title of the textbook, name of author(s) and the edition number? I would also greatly appreciate a chance to get the readings for "the syllabi from first quarter".

Cheers and wishing you progress every day.

Hi TaoGirl,

Did your webadvisor status change to waitlisted? Mine still states "complete-in review process." I'm just wondering if you found out through the phone or letter or through webadvisor. Did you get an interview invitation as well? I'll appreciate your response. Thanks! :)

Hi Mint86,

I did have an interview a few weeks back and I did receive a letter that I was on the wait list. My webadvisor status now says "waitlisted".

Good luck to you and it seems to have helped others to call over to the administration office if you have not yet been given a change in status.

Sending good :nurse: vibes your way!

Thanks TaoGirl for your quick response. I appreciate it. I think I'm going to call again tomorrow. I hope they can tell me my updated status over the phone.

I wish you luck getting into the program, and thank you for sending out good vibes! :)
