Published

I received an interview for this school!

I am really nervous about the interview:heartbeat

anybody applying to program let's share some informations!!

anybody know anything about msmc interview process and

did anyone take the upper division bioethics class that they semi require for the admission?

where did you take the class?

thanks

any other questions and comments are welcome

I went ahead and signed up for the Taylor class. I spoke to someone who took the class at MSMC (she's currently in the Summer 09 AccBSN program) and she said that class requires 2 papers and 3 tests. She said that if at all possible, I should get it completely out of the way before school starts. She said it's possible to do it at MSMC during the program, but that it would just make a tough semester a lot more manageable. I think if we take it during the program it's in the final semester, when we are also going to be doing resumes and looking for jobs etc...I couldn't find anyplace to take it on ground that would be finished by May, so I went ahead with the Taylor option. It's only $800 bucks as compared to $3000 at MSMC, and I have nothing else to do until school starts, so I'm just going to bit the bullet. The books are going to run about $50 bucks total on Amazon.

As for CSUN, I don't really expect to get accepted either.

Has anyone been able to find info online about which school has the better program? The CA board website has NA for CSUN's program NCLEX pass rate and the MSMC BSN only has a 75% pass rate.

sounds good.. I just called my local hospital where I volunteer. They said for 10 spots they had hundreds of appls.. MSMC is sounding better if guaranteed a job. If we get the scholarship then we would have a job.. (at least that is what Dahlia in financial aid said) .. It shows on line that the bioethics class would be the 2nd semester. Still nice to get out of the way. Is it 3000 at MSMC because you have to pay per unit after 18 units?

Yahoo Group:

I just started a yahoo group for those of us who will be attending MSMC Accelerated BSN program in Summer 09. Thought it would be a good way for us to keep in touch while we wait and also to help with studying during the course.

Here's the link if anyone's interested:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MSMC_AccBSN_Summer_2009/

I was told by the girl that is in the program now that it is $3000 because we pay by the unit, not by the semester.

I still have a week to drop the Taylor class with only a $50 fee, and I haven't bought the books yet...I can't decide!!!

I was also thinking about doing the loan payback program to at least be guaranteed a job. But I really want to work at Cedar's or UCLA, so I'll apply there. I have a friend who is a nurse at UCLA, so I feel like I may have an in there...don't know.

Also, if we take the loans from Kaiser or Torrance, we don't HAVE to work there. We just have to pay back the loan if we don't work there, at least that's how I understood it. Would just have to see what the interest rate on the loan would be.

thanks I have never particpated in a yahoo group. I will check it out. thanks

I have been thinking about taking the bioethics class before we start the program. But to tell you guys the truth, I hate paper. English is my 2nd language and I really can't write a 25 pages paper; even the 5 pages takes me for ever to finish. I have a very strong background in sciences though!!! Like some scientific I just can't stand writing papers.

Taylor university is not the only place were the bioethics class can be taken. I am looking around to see which CalState is offering the class for spring 09. I am thinking about CalState LA, but they do not have the spring schedule online yet. I might have to call them!!! Anyway, I'll let you nkow.

I send my application at CSUN for the ABSN, but to tell you the thruth I'm not counting on it. They are overwhelmed by applications and the chances to get in are really small. They wont get back to us before April, that's why I send my $400 check to MSMC already. It is clear that I'll go for it if I'm accepted because it is cheaper than this one at Mount; eventough CSUN doen't have the Mount reputation...

Please let us know if you'll go for Taylor Univ. and if you receive any information from the school about anything so that noone will be left behind. Thank's...

You shouldn't feel bad about your writing skills. Many native speakers, including me, also hate writing papers. Like you, I love science classes but really dislike writing assignments. I can get by, but it feels like such a chore to get through them. I had two philosophy classes last semester which required a lot of writing and drove me nuts.

I'm still considering the Taylor class just to get it out of the way since I have no other classes at the moment. This whole MSMC program is starting to stress me out a bit. The amount of debt I'll have is crazy thinking about all the people going the CC or state school route. The idea that we'll have jobs out of school is very appealing though, at least through the loan forgiveness program. Omibashu brings up a good point though. What happens if we decide not to work at the hospital we contract with? I wonder what the terms of the loan would be. I've heard that Kaiser for example may limit which unit you can work in. I would ultimately like to work where there is a level I trauma center as a pathway to CRNA.

The NCLEX passing rate of MSMC's bachelor program is a little worrisome if accurate. 75% pass rate seems quite low compared to many schools. This might be for the normal program as I swear I saw a rate in the 90's somewhere else. I just hope that MSMC's reputation is as good as some have said. As far as CSUN, I was going to apply as my first choice but the amount of applications they receive combined with the requirements stopped me at the last minute. It seems they want much more from their candidates and I just wanted to get going. It's a relatively new program as well which Mary even pointed out in the interview. I would be weary of going into something that unestablished. Samuel Merritt was another option but the cost of moving back up north compared to staying in socal scratched that option.

Omibashu, when you talk about applying to Cedar's or UCLA, are you referring to before you graduate or for financial assistance up front? Would you still apply for the Kaiser, Torrance, Northridge loans? If you wouldn't mind, I'm sure there are people reading who would like some insight into your plans.

Anyone else having thoughts about school? It's only 3 1/2 months away.

Thank you very much "cinsocal" for understanding my fears. I have no choice than taking the bioethics class at Taylor Univ. since no other school (nearby) offers it this spring. I really don't know how I'm gonna do with that 25 pages final essay, but the desire of getting the course out of the way is more intense than my fears. I have no class this spring, so I'll concentrate only on that one. Hope to get it well done!!!

I have nothing against the yahoo group, but I prefer a google group because they do have more tools and documentation support ( google doc.) I don't know what you guys think. I just want us to have the best for our sharings...

I'll be taking the kaiser forgivable loan even though I would rather prefer working with cedar's sinai like my husband, or with UCLA. Anyway the forgivable loan will not only guarante a job, but also will last only 2 years. That's gonna be 2 yrs of experience if applying somewhere else after kaiser!!!

I agree that the passing rate for the NCLEX at MSMC is not really attractive but I thing that if we work togheter by sharing our strenghts and knoladges we'll all make it. We'll be comming from differents background and we'll make a very diverse pool of students. That diversity should be our strength and noone should be left behind (if having any difficulty).

We have only few months before the suicidal year, let us evacuate all our stress and build up our energy reservoir... Good luck to each of you!!!

Hi labelledame

I am taking that course right now.. I have all the books (got them real cheap from half.com and amazon.com.. all around only 5-20 dollars each) and I just started reading.. I really hate writing myself so I know i am gonna suffer next 3 months writing long papers but I know it is better to get it over with when I have free time like right now!

good luck and see you in class

reading is not that bad but really... I can't believe he expects us to write 25 pages for one of the assignments (other assignments are like only 5 pages if I remember correctly).. I know it is an upper division class but really... is he really going to read all that?:banghead:

Labelledame, do you have any people available to you to read over your work? Having someone that will go over and help edit your papers might reduce your stress over writing. Maybe someone from the board could help.

I kinda agree about using google over yahoo. Maybe you can create a group on sites.google.com? A couple out of state friends and I made a site on there to stay in touch.

Good luck to everyone taking the bioethics class.

Thank's "juninunmul" you're just too funny!!! Hope you'll make me laugh in class to reduced the load of our future stress :chuckle(lol). I'll register for the class at taylor univ. asap. I made my mind already.

I have no body available to read over my work. It is not that I am a bad writer, since I never had less than a B for all my papers (from Eng, to Philosophy, history, pol. sciences or psychology). It's just like it takes me too much to complete a 5 to 7 pages paper. 25 pages is like a "mini" thesis!!! Anyway we wanna save time and money; so let's do what ever it takes...

About the Google group, to tell you the truth, I don't really know how it works but my husband (who is a computer engineer) told me that it's way better than yahoo group (that is kind of limited) and more appropriate for studies. If every body agrees, I'll create one soon. I just wanna make sure that we are all on the same pace because "omibashu" has created a yahoo group already. The must important thing for me is to have an efficient group and a very united class.

Can't wait to meet all of you. It seems to me like 3 months to wait is gonna take forever. Take great care of you guys and see you soon...

My plans as far as UCLA and Cedar's are concerned is to apply for work out of school, I checked and Cedar's no longer offers loan forgiveness because they are adequately staffed, and UCLA reimburses for tuition if you are already working there.

As for the yahoo/google group...it makes no difference to me, I've never used google groups before as I am no fan of their UI in general, but I'm sure I can live with it. If anyone else wants to start the group on google, post on here so we can join. If anyone wants me to go ahead and create it, I can do that too.

juninunmul: I ordered my books a few days ago and will get them in soon. Have you been able to find any info about the professor that is teaching?
