Mount Sinai PSON ABSN Fall 2021

Published

Starting the thread since I could only find Summer 2021z Has anyone applied to and/or gotten an admission decision from Mount Sinai PSON for their ABSN program starting Fall 2021? Where else did you apply? Share stats if comfortable, you know the drill! Thanks!

Does anyone know if they send their acceptances in waves?

You always get your acceptance/ response letter through email! Since you’ve applied before the deadline you may receive yours in another few weeks! Good luck! ?

Okay, gotcha. Thank you so much!

Specializes in CNA, PCT/A, CPT.

Does anyone know how large the cohort will be?

in the info session they said 130-150 people for the fall!

Does anyone know what date the program exactly starts? Also, the PSON website states that all courses and clinical are being done remotely??

I got my acceptance email ! I barely met the GPA requirement. There's still hope for those who haven't heard back yet. I thought I wasn't going to get in but I did. I got an email a month ago about my nutrition course being more than 5 years and how I needed to take an Ethics course. For those wondering my undergrad GPA was 2.7. I took my prereq courses at the University of Rochester and got a 3.7. I wish everyone all the best.

Is there a fb group for fall?

8/23 and the website says that but I think clinicals are in person

can someone please confirm that clinicals will be in person? Admin being this disorganized and not communicating critical info like this is starting to scare me. Can def already see the patterns of chaos everyone in the 2020 forum described.

Also, don't know if everyone else knew this, but I just found out the new location is in East Harlem. Wondering if classes going are going to be mostly online or at the new location..if anyone in the current cohorts knows?

I'm still waiting to hear from PSON (got into NYU) but as I am going through the PSON Fall 2020 forum I keep reading terrible terrible reviews from current students. Anyone have some updates on the current academic/clinicals situation? are profs still leaving? are they slowly getting more organized? Below is one of the worst ones I read from @psonstudent

"I am in PSON right now and advise others to stay away. Yes, it is cheaper than NYU, but its just not worth it. The program is a scam, you teach yourself EVERYTHING. Professors are awful at communicating, make bad grading errors which they refuse to change, and don't know the material well enough to give it over. PSON would hire a tree willing to teach for them, it feels like a babysitting agency. Additionally, the admin staff are not accommodating, and don't care that all lectures this semester were in an auditorium bc we don't have a school. Our class size is 110 instead of the advertised 50, in order to fund their new building. No one works in the school, all their staff leave one by one due to the conditions and the mess that this school is. Financial aid has been unstaffed for 2 months, leaving students without their loans taken out to cover rent.

The reason you all havent heard back is because no one works there, no joke. There is now one person left managing financial, admissions, all classes and clinicals etc

Hey, I am literally in the same position as you. Also got into NYU and waiting to hear back from PSON. Emailed them twice to see when I could expect to hear back and nothing. IDK if you have submitted your decision for NYU yet, but mine is due this upcoming Monday and I am unsure what to do.

I would accept NYU but that tuition is seriously scaring me.

Hey y’all! In regards to these concerns, please don’t let one person who experienced something negative or perhaps interpreted their experience in such a negative way defer you from this program!
You can speak with many students from the ABSN program at Mount Sinai about their experiences, I’ve spoken to few as well through Instagram! I believe every nursing program whether it’s from Mount Sinai, NYU, SUNY Downstate, Hunter, etc. you’ll always find some people who’ve encountered these negative experiences.

The PSON office are always responsive and quick to my questions in regards to application, etc.

I had originally applied for the Summer entry but had to decline and re applied for the Fall due to graduation timing! When I received my acceptance everything is explained thoroughly in the package.

Yes, I see it too that the school moved to a new location in Harlem as well! It’s right next to the station and is actually very close to Mt. Sinai’s Icahn School of Medicine!

@EdaTheInfermiere you make some good points, it's just tough to ignore the strong criticism completely you know.. I'm sure with Covid things were hard on everyone at all schools.

Is there any info on remote vs. in person classes / clincals in the acceptance package that you wouldn't mind sharing with us?

Does anybody know if patho and pharm needs to be taking before the start of the program?

I absolutely agree with you! I believe it’s important to intake everyone’s experiences! Perhaps since all educational settings were defaulted to remote learning without notice since early 2020, things didn’t shift in a proper way for many universities!
In regards to info on remote vs. In person, I cannot give you a correct answer because all the package gives you is the on boarding process of paying the deposit, where to purchase the uniforms, filling a bunch of health assessment/ drug screening/ toxicology screening/ getting our ID’s. Nothing so far is mentioned about this however, a week or 2 after we receive our acceptance the PSON will send another emailing in attending a zoom meeting to meet the deans. From there we can possibly ask these questions!

I hope you take PSON into consideration I would love to enter this program with you all! ?
