Mount Saint Mary's University (ABSN Summer 2018)

Published

Hello Everyone,

I have recently applied for the MSMU's Summer 2018 ABSN Program at the Doheny Campus, and I would be delighted to know if anyone else applied!

I am scheduled to take the Math Exam on the 16th of December!

I thought this thread would be a great way to keep each other updated throughout the process. Anyone is more than welcome to share on this post--whether it'd be about the application process, experiences, and future goals!

With that in mind, I sincerely wish you all the best of luck!

Hi Nurse.em94

I will be commuting from the SFV, I hope we have other classmates around this area so we can plan on carpooling together. I know the traffic will kill me, lol. Id be dead exhausted by the time I get home.

Our class will be taking NCLEX between July- August most likely. The timing depends on the BRN...you will learn all about this through the program. I know that I still have a lot of review to do but yes I feel prepared in what I need to do to be ready by the time I take the test.

We did a group me for fast communication and a class google drive to share information. If you do not have a google account/ google drive...make one. We used this often for group collaboration.

Glad I can help...I wish someone had prepared me more :)

Thanks for all the information. If you had to, how was retaking the math test? Did having a tutor help you to get a 100% to start the program?

Hey everyone! The GroupMe link was posted on the previous page 5th post from the top.

Hi! I will be commuting from SFV as well. Hope we can link up soon to set this up because like you, I'd be dead too.

Hello! I'm new to this forum! I also got accepted and have committed to the summer 2018 cohort!

Did anybody else get an email regarding math remediation? I'm worried that I won't get 100% on the math placement re-take exam :/

Clinicals change often because it depends were the school gets sent. The school submits requests and then there is an organization that dictates placement for all nursing program in the state. I can tell you we have been to UCLA RR for many rotations...as well as UCLA Santa Monica, Northridge, USC Keck, Torrance, CHLA, Little Company of Mary, Huntington...and maybe a few I am missing.

You do not get to choose your placement...except that now. Sometimes you will be driving further than you would like but make the most of each experience. All places will have there pros and cons.

I live near campus which makes commuting on lecture days easy and it is kinda center for clinicals but that is just me. We have people that live in SFV and Long beach so people come from all over.

@FutureNurse.2017, can you explain the math remediation process? Is it pretty much guaranteed that everyone that goes through math remediation will get 100% on the math placement re-take? I would appreciate it if you can provide some peace of mind to my worried soul! Thanks!

The tutor is awesome and everyone who remediated got 100% on the retake. You have many things to worry about but that is not something to stress about :)

Thank you Futurenurse2017, whatever I have studied before that Math Test, I've forgotten everything already. Lol. Thank you for clarifying that we don't have to stress on the Math remediation. Working full time and finishing prêreqs is already a bit stressful. Thank you for answering our questions.

Thank you, that would be great... what's your email?

Thank you SO MUCH for all of your help, FutureNurse.2017! We really appreciate it! In terms of financing your education, how did you do so if you don't mind me asking? I need to take out loans and was wondering if you have any recommendations where to look? Do you happen to know who offers the best loan interest rate?

The school will help you with this and tell you when to apply and everything but my loans were federal and private student loans. For your year, you will be taking out loans twice. Once for the summer semester and the second time you will take out loans for the Fall/Spring semester together.

My first loans were thru Wells Fargo and Second time Sallie Mae (these are the top two)....Best bet is to find a few places that have decent interest rates. Also, if you are working right now, I suggest you apply for the first loan while you still have the job, may help with interest rate.

Also, sorry for spelling or grammatical errors in all these posts....Im replying between all the chaos lol
