New Grad Moving from California to D.C....And I need Advise
I am graduating from an ABSN program in May 2018. My husband just found out that he will be relocated to D.C. by the end of the year (December). So I am in a weird position and I don't know what to do! I have decided that I will get my initial license in D.C.... working with the school for that. What I don't know is if I can take the NCLEX in Cali still? Second problem is timeline...Graduate in May, NCLEX in August probably, and move in December, new grad programs in D.C. start in February... So what do I do with the 5 months I am in Cali with no job? Do I try to do CNA? The new grad in DC require that I have NO previous RN experience...zero My concern is that I am doing nothing, the new grad problems in DC will question that? Also if I am applying from California, will the DC new grad program take me seriously? Any advise/direction/help would be so appreciated!!

Mount Saint Mary's University (ABSN Summer 2018)
The school will help you with this and tell you when to apply and everything but my loans were federal and private student loans. For your year, you will be taking out loans twice. Once for the summer semester and the second time you will take out loans for the Fall/Spring semester together. My first loans were thru Wells Fargo and Second time Sallie Mae (these are the top two)....Best bet is to find a few places that have decent interest rates. Also, if you are working right now, I suggest you apply for the first loan while you still have the job, may help with interest rate. Also, sorry for spelling or grammatical errors in all these posts....Im replying between all the chaos lol

Georgetown University Hospital New Grad Residency 2018
Thank you so much for the resource! I have been searching different hospitals to figure out if they have programs. For those going through the process...How has it been? How competitive? I graduate in May but will not be in DC until December...I am in a weird position because I cannot apply for new grad programs in LA and now will have to wait to start a new grad program in DC in January or February.

The tutor is awesome and everyone who remediated got 100% on the retake. You have many things to worry about but that is not something to stress about :)

Clinicals change often because it depends were the school gets sent. The school submits requests and then there is an organization that dictates placement for all nursing program in the state. I can tell you we have been to UCLA RR for many rotations...as well as UCLA Santa Monica, Northridge, USC Keck, Torrance, CHLA, Little Company of Mary, Huntington...and maybe a few I am missing. You do not get to choose your placement...except that now. Sometimes you will be driving further than you would like but make the most of each experience. All places will have there pros and cons. I live near campus which makes commuting on lecture days easy and it is kinda center for clinicals but that is just me. We have people that live in SFV and Long beach so people come from all over.

Our class will be taking NCLEX between July- August most likely. The timing depends on the BRN...you will learn all about this through the program. I know that I still have a lot of review to do but yes I feel prepared in what I need to do to be ready by the time I take the test. We did a group me for fast communication and a class google drive to share information. If you do not have a google account/ google drive...make one. We used this often for group collaboration. Glad I can help...I wish someone had prepared me more :)

Hi RNby2019! Just so you know, holidays are not guaranteed. I started last may and we had no holidays off except thanksgiving Thursday & Friday (I had clinical Saturday) & We had 3 weeks off for Christmas and maybe July 4th (I don't remember). We did not get any breaks or other holidays...the campus is closed yes but you will be here :)

I suggest the group me instead of facebook because there is going to be a lot of information thrown at you guys and a group me chat allows everyone to share info quickly and it is easy to use. Umm let me think back that far lol.... for most semesters you will have class two days a week and clinicals either 2 or 3 days a week. The first rotation we were M-F (2 class days, 3 clinical days of 6 hours). BUT everything is always changing. We did have clinicals on weekends during certain rotation. You have to be flexible with everything. The biggest piece of advise I can give you is to roll with the punches...things are going to change often and its better to keep a positive outlook rather than fuss over something you cannot change. We had made suggestions along the way so hopefully your year will be the best one yet :)

Mount Saint Mary's University (ABSN Summer 2018)
Hi all, I am currently in the ABSN program, I graduate in May. Congratulations on your acceptance! I was concerned with the pass rate when I applied as well but the school has made a lot of adjustments in order to get you a lot of practice with NCLEX style questions. Last we heard the ABSN pass rate was about 85%. I know this is lower than I would like, but I know that I will be doing NCLEX prep myself prior to taking the exam on top of what they provide. The program is tough and fast paced but if you are organized and dedicated you can do it. Each cohort passes down a lot of information to help the next. My cohort started with 26 people and have 19 from the original class, so it is not something to take lightly. Each rotation is 8 weeks so you do not have time to get behind. The first semester is the hardest because you are trying to get into a pattern of everything but each rotation has its difficult moments. If you have any questions just ask :)

Georgetown University Hospital New Grad Residency 2018
Hi all, I am hoping you are still following this thread. I am currently on the West coast and about to graduate May 2018 with my BSN. My husband is being relocated to the DC area at the end of this year so I am looking into New Grad Programs in the DC Area. I have been looking at Georgetown but I do not see any new grad information on their website right now. Do you have to have license in hand before applying? If you have started, are you enjoying the program? I do not know much about hospitals in DC so I am trying to gather as much information as I can. Thanks!

Mount Saint Mary's ABSN Summer 2017
Hi Jennaly & all future applicants for MSMU, I used the forums when I first applied to help gather information so I wanted to post some information about my experience through the process, maybe it will help you. I applied to MSMU summer 2016 and was rejected. My undergrad GPA was 3.5 and science was 3.44 (I had a C in micro). I had some experience working as a unit secretary but no volunteer experience or direct patient care experience. I called to find out how to improve. They said that they look at the application as a whole and not just GPA but they like to see a science GPA above 3.5. So I retook micro. I enrolled in the COPE Health scholars program and volunteered 280 hours getting direct patient care experience over the next year and just to be sure I enrolled in an EMT program at UCLA. My second time applying I had improved my science GPA above a 3.5 and gained experience with direct patient care and completed my EMT cert. I took the math exam (for the second time) and got a 100%. I was then asked to an interview. They asked some hard questions about why I had to re take classes and what I learned but I was prepared. I was accepted for Summer 2017. My advice for future applicants is to not guess about how the process will go, this application process was very different from my first time so they change the process every year. Just be patient :) && Good Luck

Mount Saint Mary's ABSN Summer 2017
Hi all! I know that past groups have started face books pages to connect but I thought maybe a GroupMe would be better. For those with smart phones there is an app. It will allow us all to chat and maybe get to know a little bit about one another before we spend the next year together lol let me know and I will PM you the link or you can PM your phone number and I will add you.

@jgarc044 yay! excited to meet our class! @YourFutureNurse2017 I know you can call and find out your placement on the waitlist. I don't think they waitlist too many people maybe 10? and I know that some people will decline because of acceptance into other schools. We will find out the deposit deadline soon and then that will give you a better idea of when they will pull from the waitlist. Stay positive!
