Motlow Applicants 2014

Published

Hey everyone! Just wanted to create a place for potential Motlow Nursing students for fall 2014 to converse, ask questions, and get to know each other. Anyone out there? If so, which campus do you hope to attend? I live near Lavergne, so Smyrna campus will be my home base.

For those of you who have questions about the process over the next 6 months, I went through all of the application/acceptance/orientation/etc steps last year, but had to withdraw 3 weeks before classes started due to a financial aid fiasco...so I know what's to come and would be glad to clarify anything for you.

Good luck to everyone and hope to be meeting you all this summer!

I Have question please, do they (instructors) let you guys record the lucture? I been recording all A&P and Micro and I really like it.

No, which is horrible! I asked about that last semester (toward the end) if they would reconsider allowing recording devices. One instructor said 'that might be a possibility in the future'. Every single RN whom I've asked what they thought the number one piece of advice was in getting through nursing school was to record lectures. They do give power point notes...and of courses the voluminous amount of reading.

Oh man! I was really wanting to record the lectures as well. I am going to have to work part time and wanted to listen to it over and over while I work. I really hope they change their minds on that!

I'm going to recorded anyway. Sorry I have to

They are strict w/ that. Unless you have a disability (like one lady had ADHD and maybe something else, IDK) you won't be able to record. Apparently, some x amount of years ago, lecture recording was allowed, but someone took advantage of it (I'm not sure if I should say WHAT the people did.) and the no recording policy went in place.

How would they know? Couldn't u hide it somewhere like ur bag or something?

They make jump drive recorders. I had one last year and when my history teacher asked what it was, I said it was my jump drive, because it is! Plus, they are so small you could put it in your purse, pocket, even bra!

I strongly advise you to NOT break their rules! They will not hesitate to punish you for it and it is not worth losing your spot! If you attend class and do the work you will be fine. Also, as far as the driving goes, I am in the end of first year and this semester they made it so that lab practice and your 1st attempt at a return is on your home campus! It has made peoples lives MUCH easier. There have only been maybe 3 or 4 times all spring semester where the entire class had to be on Moore county campus. I hope they keep it this way for you all!

I heard they will take pictures for us at the orientation to get us new IDs, so you guys make sure to look good

I think I read earlier the supplies we need don't have to be bought at orientation and don't have to be a specific brand, is there anyone has recommendations on what to get? I wanna try to get my stuff little by little so it's not a huge expense at once. Also I read financial aid doesn't help much is that true? Being a single parent financial aid has always helped but it's on the front end I never have to pay and they reimburse me. Any info or advice on this would be nice :)

Stethoscope (the lightweight littmann is more than sufficient and pretty nice, people do just fine). A bp cuff (bought mine on amazon), any old watch with a second hand, pen light are the essentials, white leather shoes, maybe goggles (mine are a pair of shooting glasses I got cheap at walmart)…. I have never used bandage scissors or hemostats, and I'm about to graduate. I'd buy one thing at a time between now and then.

Hey...have you applied to any scholarships in addition to the fasfa? Did you qualify for the hope scholarship too from the fasfa?

I haven't met any of of the requirements for the scholarships that I've seen and the hope scholarship has to be for recent high school students is what I was told (I graduated in 2007) I've received the pell grant in the past and that helps out big time
