Hey everyone! Just wanted to create a place for potential Motlow Nursing students for fall 2014 to converse, ask questions, and get to know each other. Anyone out there? If so, which campus do you hope to attend? I live near Lavergne, so Smyrna campus will be my home base.
For those of you who have questions about the process over the next 6 months, I went through all of the application/acceptance/orientation/etc steps last year, but had to withdraw 3 weeks before classes started due to a financial aid fiasco...so I know what's to come and would be glad to clarify anything for you.
Good luck to everyone and hope to be meeting you all this summer!
I receive pell grants every year (the max amount offered). The first semester I had to pay a lot out of pocket just because there were soooooooo many books, uniforms, supplies, etc. For the most part, you will use all the books from first semester in the following semesters (although not as frequently). For my second semester, I only had tuition & fees plus 2 books that came in a bundle together (less than $200 for books) and I got about $600 back from my pell grant. Hope that helps hopeful2brn2016!
I think I read earlier the supplies we need don't have to be bought at orientation and don't have to be a specific brand, is there anyone has recommendations on what to get? I wanna try to get my stuff little by little so it's not a huge expense at once. Also I read financial aid doesn't help much is that true? Being a single parent financial aid has always helped but it's on the front end I never have to pay and they reimburse me. Any info or advice on this would be nice :)
1- Do you recommend littmann classic II or cardiology III? I already ave the SE II (never used it) but something telling me I might miss something with it and cardiology III might be better.
2- do we have to wear our uniform all the time or only during clinical?
3- for my first semester I'll have only Nurs1400 and 1410 classes, would you mind if you tell me little pit about them?
Thank you so Much
The stethoscope you have will be great. There are lots of people I know with much less fancy stethoscopes who are doing awesome. It really isn't necessary to get a different one. Uniforms are worn for clinical only.
1400 is the lecture portion of the program. You will meet mon and wed from 9-12.
1410 is a class about the history of nursing, learning about ethics, and some of the rules that come along with having your license (like if you default on your student loans they will take your license). You will write papers and discussion posts. It is an online class.
for anyone who needs DOSAGE CALCULATIONS: take it online, no matter how well you are at math I promise the online class is 10000x easier than classroom!!! You get multiple chances at the quizzes and you can use your book. In the class you get one shot at the quizzes with no book! I know a lot of people who almost lost their spot in the program because they were in danger of failing dosage!!

Thank you so much for the answer:D, it look like first semester won't be so bad for me! and I totally agree with you about dosage, I'm taking it now online and it is really easy (I just took my final exam today)

NURS 1400 is a nine hour class. That nine hour class is like taking double full-full time non-nursing college classes.
Will they register our 1st semester for us at orientation? Also the are the scrubs all white? Some of my nurse friends had to wear white ones and said u can see through them. I'm so ready for orientation since half the questions I have I'm sure they go over I'm just so excited and impatient lol
