Hi Nurses
I will never ever forget an experience i had while in nursing school clinicals.
I was assigned to bed A and when I got there to do my assessment I was over come with fear of what i saw:........ a pt who looks possessed just the same type of look from the exorcist.
i kid you not, the pt had razor sharp teeth looked like fangs and his eyes followed me as soon as i walked in the room. the moment i walked in i knew some thing was not right.. my gut feeling told me.
i freaked out and left the room and checked the charts etc i found out shortly that my patient was switched THANK GOD because i could not deal with what i saw.
I have never seen any thing like that in my life except from a movie. you should have seen the eyes i cant even describe it.
when I alerted my other class mates as to what i had seen they were scared to go and look in the room.
any one had any experience that was shocking ?
geez, guys, she's asking people to share their memorable moments, not asking what she should have done. she was a student!! after years in the er i've seen frightening people too that made me want to bolt, but if i'd been a student i probably would have bolted.
i agree with the above post.
she's just a student at this point and was just asking for other's experiences.
no need to "eat" the girl and spit her out.

99.999% of us in this thread were gentle, even offering advice on how to deal with the shocking moment. Let's not judge all of us as eating and spitting because I don't see but one harsh statement.
Thanks.
However, how you read and interpret the thread is how you read and interpret and how I do is how I do.
Tweety, it was directed at anyone who told her that this is a part of nursing. She knows that, but when you're a student used to somewhat controlled situations, something like this can really freak one out. My comment wasn't meant to say "Quit beating her up", but rather, "She's not asking for advice on how she should have handled it, she's reminiscing."

I thought it was a bit harsh telling her to "save the drama".........that's like telling her to keep it to herself and that she's not in high school anymore...that's childish.
I didn't see it as a big deal that she asked others for their similar experiences.
Gee, students have many different experiences ahead of them. What's the big deal about talking about it here?

That's the ONE statement in this thread I was talking about. Perhaps you might have quoted that one person rather than make a blanket statement judging all of us?

True enough. She was having a human reaction as a student and I understand that.
My apologies to the op. Please don't feel judged by myself (and most of the others I'm sure).
We've all had shocking moments, mine has usually involved wounds, like pulling down a person's sheets and seeing no leg, no hip, and half a scrotum missing.

*sigh* I didn't make a blanket statement judging ALL
That's how you took it. Nowhere was it intended to judge all.
Statements are meant to be taken by the one reading it, for whatever worth it is to them. Take it for whatever value it is to you, if none, then toss it out.
But.................whatever.

I agree. We can only say what we have to say and how it is taken isn't something we can control.
Since you didn't quote anyone or address anyone, I took it that you were addressing us all when you said something about eating the op up and spitting them out, which isn't how I saw this thread at all.
Let's (myself included) not highjack the thread any further. We've all made our points.

I believe you are a compassionate person but I also believe you are letting your imagination run away with you. I've seen some pretty scary things, myself, one being a homeless man who had been living under bridges, in the woods...he scared me silly the way he looked; he had hair that was bushed out with twigs and trash in it and was so dirty his skin was the color of dirt. But he also used to be someone's sweet baby boy.
