Hello!

Just curious as to what you all have found as the most challenging or difficult class or moment in your nursing studies/career...

Without any hesitation or doubt, my first semester of pharmacology!

Specializes in NICU.

Making any sense at all of those darn EKG strips.

Specializes in ED, Rehab, LTC.

The all or nothing deadlines. Those tests and papers that are so crucial to your career if you fail them, you fail the course. I had one of those papers due and I typed it on my computer. It was an old computer that someone had set up for me using whatever resources we had. I didn't have a printer, so I saved it on a disc and took it to school to print. For some reason it didn't save. So I went home and saved it under a different program and emailed it to myself to be sure. I went to school again to print it out it. It didn't work, and for some reason the email was empty. It was like someone was playing a bad joke on me. So I start to panic a little. I went out to buy a printer. Brought it home, only to find that the cord was not compatable with my computer, it was to old. I called the store to see if they had one that was compatable. They didn't. So I really start freaking out and called the people from the computer program, they couldn't help me. So I called the person who hooked up the computer for me, he walked me through creating a website so I could pull it up at school. So I go back to school and could not pull it up. I called my teacher because now I had about 2 hours before it was due and tried to explain the situation. I don't think she believed me and told me I would flunk if it wasn't turned in. I finally went home and hand wrote it then drove to school and typed it up and ran to class with like three minutes left. It was about fifteen pages long. I have never been so stressed out in my entire life. I should have taken it as a sign. How could I be that unlucky without reason.

class- psych.....and i was excited for it but the tests were crazy....loved the clinicals

moment? GROUP PROJECTS... i can only say I have had one go smoothly....1 out of 6............hate these things

Mine would have to be the first time I had 3 patients on my own. I began to wonder if it was something I could pull off, then I realized that I could. THe second is dealing with the stress of it all (school). It's a balancing act...always.

Psych. I've always had a problem with psych, both in school and in practice.

Specializes in Urgent Care.

I second the EKG strips :lol2:

Nearly failing the pharm proficiency test that 'was no big deal' according to our instructors. No big deal except that it could fail you out of the program for good. Waiting for the results was a killer. I learned my lesson from that, all right.

Still, that kid above with the computer problems should win a prize or something. What a story!!!

Had a similar experience with not being able to print a 20 page paper. After that I never waited for the last day to print anything-too stressful.

Hello, I would have to say the most stressful moment was the whole first semester for me.. Getting use to the whole nursing process, pharm, assessment, fundamentals and clinicals all together and getting used to the way they test you. (NCLEX) type questions.. I am in my third semester now and its still a challenge but I love it..

For me it was the end of my first semester. My final was scheduled for 12/10...wife and I were expecting a new baby on 12/12...She went into labor on 12/8 at 12:30am had to take a make up exam on the same day at 9am....the hospital was about 40 miles from the school...the nurse told me she would probally deliver around 12 noon or later so I drove the 40 miles in about 20 minutes.to take the test..my instructor allow me to take the exam earlier about midway through the exam wife calls..."Oh honey she's coming where are you?" I wrote anything on those last few questions and I was out the door. I call my wife again and all I could here was the cries of my 6lb 12oz daughter....MISSED THE WHOLE THING. I had no time to study for the final because of the excitement of my baby girl. I took the test and passed...that was my moment.
