They have revised the US unemployment numbers, it is much higher than first thought.

Before you post, that there are still jobs and you hope retrogression is over. Please think.

These are my neighbors who don't have a job and may loss their homes.

That hospitals are hurting and nurses are also loosing their jobs.

The the US economy has changed and nurses are looking for more work ( second jobs) and nurses are returning back to the bedside.

The trend of importing nurses has stopped and their are no economic incentives for bringing in new nurses ( hospitals could get tax write offs this has stopped).

It is Christmas time, this is only November's number, my guess is December's will be higher. There are families attached to these numbers. How would you feel if over 1.2 million people is your country one month lost their source of income? At and probably to news will be worse!

Tax incentives are for US citizens.

You are a Hospital Manager-

you have 2 choices

Hiring a newly educated US worker no legal issues and no agency fee

or wait for retrogression pay tens of thousands of dollars and provide an extended orientation for IEN ?

hmmm........tough choices......plus you budget is being cut. How are you going to justify an IEN?

It's unlikely. With the increasing unemployment in the US, the new administration will focus on retraining workers to fill available positions.:zzzzz

:zzzzz retraining workers  fill available positions:confused: now that iv gotta see.:chuckle

The economy will level out and recover. The ageing population is another matter entirely; the US and the UK need immigrants.

We have it made in the USA, we are just in a little slump right now.

We have became spoiled, what happen to the "Pull Up the Boot Strap" attitude that America was famous for.

Try living in another country like Philippines and looking for a job.

If your not young, or attractive then you have problems.

I see ads for work they say: Must be female, between age 21 to 25, Must be 5'2" or taller, Fair Complexion, posses college degree, pleasing personality, Must include picture with resume.

There is so much opportunity to in USA to have a career and make great money, and if one of your adventure fails you can always start over.

Im sure you'l be getting your support....:D, but what if the support you were hoping for came from another country? *wine cheers:cheers::beer:

Well, then, it wouldn't actually be the support we were hoping for, now would it? :chuckle

The main priority for the US is putting Americans back to work, plain and simple.

Perhaps other countries should also try to "pull themselves up by their bootstraps" as well....

At the moment, our US economy is not expected to rally for several years. There are many, many unemployed Americans who would like the retraining offered.

Im pretty sure it makes your blood boil seeing an immigrant nurse in your station:yeah: I wouldnt wanna be that nurse sitting next to you. joke only:chuckle:lol2::lol2::lol2:

I can't find a job, I'm a new LPN grad and have applied to over 20 hospitals and nursing homes. Most of them have told me they are not hiring right now. The ones that are want LPN's with at least 1-2 yrs. experience. If no one will hire me how do I get the exp.? I have 15 years exp. in hospitals & nrsg. homes as a tech though. Happy New Year everyone!:redbeathe

That is horrible to live in a country where people are treated like that, it is awful.I think most people will agree with you. Every day I am reminded of all of the men and women who fought in the USA so I don't have to live like that. Americans have paid a price to live like this. There are many countries like the Philippines, I don't what to hijack this thread, but if you want to discuss the merits of immigration and which country has worse living conditions for IEN there is a political forum here.

I also feel if we are going to import nurses, ALL qualified nurses should be recruited, India, England, Ireland, China, etc should all have the same opportunity. Should nurses from the UK not be allowed to come to the USA since their country's standard of living is superior? Isn't that discrimination when you only immigrate one group and not another? If the US needs to import IEN open the doors to all! The IEN should be represent the countries the general immigration population so when immigrants need health care their will be nurses who can educate other nurses about the patient's culture.

This issue in this thread is unemployment and some feel this an opportunity for IEN to find work. What I am hearing from our new President is that he is trying to find every American a job and will prompt programs since as tax incentives and worker training programs. I feel this is wonderful for US citizens who can fill the void and become nurses.

As I have said before, I have worked with foreign nurses for many years, primarily from the Philippines. The nurses who trained years ago are competent nurses and I love working with them. The more recent grads...not so much. Poorly trained, only in it for the money...it shows in their attitude.

And lucky for you, you won't have to worry about being that nurse sitting next to me---thank God for the retrogression, right?!! :yeah:joke only :chuckle

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought the doors are already open to all. People from Ireland, England, and other countries with a decent standard of living aren't necessarily all wanting to move to the US. It's mainly people from poor, third world countries who are trying to squeeze too many people through the door all at once. In terms of recruiting, though, you are right. Most foreign nurses are recruited from poor, third world countries that mass- produce nurses for export.

I think I have only worked with one Irish nurse in my entire nursing career. She was a sweet person and a good nurse. I could tell she really loved nursing, and wasn't just in it for the money. I'd like to work with nurses from a lot of different countries, but I don't think that's going to happen.

I think the problem also lies in the surplus of nurses in these 3rd world country...The economy is bad here in the US and one is still trying to find employment "here"....Some are smart and are seeking employment elsewhere in the world while others are twiddling their thumbs hoping for that slight chance that they will make it here....But with the economy the way it is it's not going to happen....gotta have a plan B...The pre-nursing students who can't get into the RN program are now opting for the LVN program and then bridge over to the RN once finished....Those pre-nursing students are going for plan B while plan A in a hault....Those are the smart ones....the ones who are stubborn and twiddling their thumbs hoping to make it into the RN program are the ones who are going to be left behind because they didn't have a plan B....I've spoken to many who are going to wait and try for the RN program after 3 years of waiting....They could have been entering the bridge program by now.....Not so smart.....So the way the economy the way it is, it's smart to have a plan B until you can revert back to plan A...That's with getting into nursing school and also trying to enter the US...
