I went to school with twin boys...Steven & Stephan(Stephan pronounced "Steffan")
One of my best friends has a grandmother named Jewel.
But in my family...we all have 'normal' names. Just some wierd nicknames...I've got a Great-Aunt "Tootie", an Great-Uncle "Beans" (he's married to "Tootie") and I had a Great-Aunt "Skip" (who was "Tootie"s sister). :)
AmyLiz,
Your family nicknames sound like some of mine! I had a great aunt who's name was Nat, but to me, she was 'Plunk-Plunk'. Her husband was Melvin, but he was called "Moomers". I have another aunt whose name is Velma, but she ended up with the nickname, "Flirt".
Now, this is all okay for nicknames, but as you can see, my aunt Nat had a strange name, but to top it off, she had sisters, Nettie, Pettie, Lucettie and Lugeal. Lugeal was my great-grandmother. I thought my dad was feeding me a bunch of bull when he told me all of this, but he showed me the family Bible, and you know you can't lie about things like that in the Bible!:)
My dad's first name is Hallet, but he goes by his middle name, Wayne. He teased me endlessly about not naming his first grandson after him! I just told him if he didn't name his own son after himself, why would I ruin his grandson with the name.:chuckle
I went rather normal with my kids, Derek, Victoria and Ethan.
My cousin named his son Crash Vernon, the Vernon came from his deceased father, and Crash is because the family has a history of Ehlers-Danlos, so Casey thought with a name like Crash it would be funny.
My daughter is Canaan, and the son on the way is Sasha.
I once took care of a Couvisseir Deante, that was honestly the last time I asked a PP mom what she named the baby.
Knew a boy growing up named Green Fields Holiness. We called him Matt.
My father's first girlfriend was Merry Christmas
I went to school with Rose Bush
My last name originates from England and is a body organ, which always gets a tremendous laugh the first day of classes, especially anatomy. It will be great fun introducing myself to my patients when I'm a nurse:)
I knew a lady who named her daughter Nekoda. It's from the Bible. I think it means "speckled dove" or something like that. Her son's name is Dathan, also from the Bible.
My daughter convinced everyone she was going to name her children Cobweb and Mustard Seed (the fairies in "A Midsummer Night's Dream) when she was fourteen, but fortunately changed her mind. Her son has a very nice, common name.
I have a relative who named her son Cade. It's Irish, I believe, and I've actually heard of other boys with that name.I just love it! I helped her pick it out, and was privileged to be at Cade's birth:)
I was going to name my second child Aiyana Amisa (which means "Eternal bloom of youth"), if she was a girl, but he was a boy and got named after my grandfather. In retrospect, I'm glad. My only daughter's name sounds common, but has a different spelling (it's the German form of the common name, and actually has an entirely different meaning), and she has had enough problems with that. When she picked a name for her son, she picked one that has a single spelling only, lol.
I worked in a dental office before going to nursing school. There was a child that was a patient there with the name:
Princess Fergie of the United States of America
I'm not joking! This was this the child's legal name!!
I went to school with a girl named Flor Flores. Also knew a family that was expecting a child to be called Snowy Winter.
First names I find interesting: Deepa, Meirelys, and Innocent.
I worked L&D in southern Cali, and had a family come in to deliver their first child. They were poor illiterate migrant workers, and did not know what to name their son. So Dad had been walking around the nurse's station for awhile that night. The next day, we found out they had named the baby "Nosmo King" (last name withheld). It took us awhile, but we figured out where he got it: the sign at our nurse's station---NO SMOKING. LOL

:chuckle Funny thing is that I went to school with a girl named precious (First name) peaches(middle name). She really didn't mind her name and just laughed about it. Also once knew a girl named Axigery. Kids used to call her spaghetti, she then came up with the nickname Gery and kept it that way.

In our NICU we usually have at least 1 girl named "Miracle" at any given time. My votes for worst baby names ever would be: Boy-"Tarantula" and Girl-"Klamidia" (Yes, pronounced just like the STD!) These are actual names. I work for a state hospital in the south and have noticed that less education = more creative baby names.
