Hello! I would like to know more about the RN program at Moorpark College (at Moorpark, CA). If you are a past, current or prospective student - please chime in and let me know what you think of the program. If you are a current student, what were your stats when you applied? Also, what is the typical schedule? Do you have lecture on certain days and then clinicals on other days? When/what time? If anyone at all has any info (or thoughts, etc.) on the program (positive or negative), please feel free to post! Thank you so much!
Hello all! Trying to leave a word of encouragement....I too was selected as an alternate for the last application period. I was not thrilled to say the least....I should have been happy that I was not out of the running but it didn't feel good....I thought for sure I was out....the uncertainty of the situation was horribly stressful. If you are not selected it does not guarantee you a spot in the following semester...you are put back in the pool to compete with all new and waiting applicants... Here's the encouraging part...I got in! Ten days after I got my alternate letter I received a call from the school congratulating me on my acceptance to the program. So have faith and be patient....trust me I know how hard it is! There were ten alternates chosen from my group and all got in....I am now over half way through my first semester....best of luck to you all! :)

Thank you so much!! your reply is encouraging. I will be patient and I;ll stay optimistic!
Moorpark is my # 1 choice and will be thrilled if I get in. I also applied to Pasadena and LA Valley college. I Live in Oak Park and Moorpark makes more sense for me.
Do you mind me asking about the schedule for the Spring. As an alternate did you have to wait until last minute to pick your classes? and, can you share your schedule for the first semester.
I work Fridays now, and am trying to figure out if I;ll be able to keep my job.
Thanks
The clinical schedule varies from semester to semester. First semester you can expect to have clinicals two days a week for six hours each. I have clinicals on thurs and fri but there are other options as well. Every semester you will have lecture on Mondays from 8 or 9 AM to 3.....this never changes throughout the program. Every 8 weeks your clinical rotation changes so your site may or may not change. Just be prepared to have changes occur every 8 weeks.... it's pretty easy to figure out....I work part time and have never had a problem with my work schedule interfering. I also have a job where they allow me to schedule around my school schedule so I am pretty lucky....I found out really early that my alternate status was changed so I did not have to register last minute....if you have any other questions let me know!

Thank you kindly for the info! I truly appreciate it! Where are your clinicals located? Do you get to choose where you go, or do you get assigned? Also, are your clinicals ever in the evenings? I have a little one, so still trying to see if this program will work out for me. Thank you in advance!
It turns out I was accepted to Moorpark after all. My address was incorrect, so the letter got returned to them. I'm very happy, but at the same time I found out I got into Glendale's evening/weekend program. Which school is better? I live in between both colleges. I will not have to work full-time so Glendale's schedule is not necessarily a plus for me. I just don't know which to choose, but I am leaning more towards Moorpark. I have no facts in terms of teachers, program, finding a job after school, etc. I do plan to continue on to the BSN. Any advice, thoughts, suggestions?
One of the metrics I personally looked at was the NCLEX pass rate. Moorpark college had 100% pass last year, Glendale had 89.96%. I also think the drive heading west on the 118 is easier than east towards Glendale. I also prefer Moorpark's location and campus...it's calming for me, nestled into the hills on one side and surrounded by nice and quiet residential areas. Lastly, I prefer the hospitals working with Moorpark for clinicals...

I am soo happy for you!! I don't know you, but I can imagine how happy you are, congrats!
In regards to which college to choose, I would say that you need to do whats best for you (distance, timing, gas mileage, family) and of course the NCLEX passing score. I also like Moorpark and feel that is a great campus. Wish you the best, see you at orientation.

THANK YOU so much for taking the time to answer my question!
wow, lots to plan ahead. Wish me luck. I am hoping I'll get some sort of clue tomorrow as far as securing a spot into the program.

So happy that you are in! I am in a similar situation as you regarding another school. I suppose my final decision will be based on the additional info that I hope to obtain in tomorrow's Open House. Best wishes to you and everyone on this thread!
Hello everyone! I'm currently in my 1st semester at VC in the RN program and it's hell! I'm thinking of dropping out and re-applying at moorpark, I got in already but turned it down for VC. I've heard its much easier at moorpark, if anyone knows about the program let me know what it's like...this is how it is at VC...clinical tests: fail 2 times and you're kicked out (already had 7 this semester) and two dosage calculation tests with 90% or better after 2 tries you're kicked out. Each of the 6 tests this semester covers about 30+ chapters and each test has material from past tests (passing is overall 75%) with 1-2 care plans a week on top of everything. I'm leaving out the horrible and unorganized teachers since they could be at any school.

Hi! I think you are in a very good position still with alternate status! I am sure you can get all of your questions answered at the Open House. The info in the previous post sounds very helpful too! Sending my best to you!
