Hello! I would like to know more about the RN program at Moorpark College (at Moorpark, CA). If you are a past, current or prospective student - please chime in and let me know what you think of the program. If you are a current student, what were your stats when you applied? Also, what is the typical schedule? Do you have lecture on certain days and then clinicals on other days? When/what time? If anyone at all has any info (or thoughts, etc.) on the program (positive or negative), please feel free to post! Thank you so much!
No, I started in Spring and M16 wasn't offered in the Fall semester. I did hear the instructor talking about it and stated that it was designed for incoming students and current students who are "struggling". If you have the time and are interested in a "preview" of the instructor's teaching style, this would be a good opportunity. Sounds to be a very all-inclusive "prep" for the nursing program including test taking strategy, time management, etc.
Given that we're at clinicals two days a week (back to back days), I purchased two pairs so that I don't have to stress about getting it washed for the next day. First 8 weeks, you're in skills lab one day so you can get away with one set but the second 8 weeks will require you to be on the hospital floor two days a week. As for scrubs, they are moving to a new vendor starting this new semester...you have to purchase the specific white top they have approved for the program. The bottoms just have to be white (not jeans though) and that you can choose to your liking. They just don't want you to go crazy on the flare ... a little is ok but not too much. The stethoscope, I purchased through the school student nurses organization because they were doing a special fundraiser and it was free shipping and distributed at orientation if you purchased. If they're not doing that this semester, I'd say purchase a decent one not too fancy but not at the bottom either ... it's worth it especially when you're trying to distinguish different heart/lung sounds with other noise around you (also when doing manual blood pressure). You'll be using it every single day at clinical and will be glad with the investment!!! The one I bought was the Littman Classic II S.E. and I've been happy with it...many of my classmates bought that one as well (it also got a good recommendation from the instructor).
Glad to help with the info...good that you're asking now during break because during the semester, you won't find me on here much if at all. lol!
I finally found a thread regarding Moorpark! Can someone please help me understand the application process for the advanced placement of an LVN to RN?
As I was going through the checklist, I read that I must submit my PN comprehensive predictor exam score. I just found out about this and while reading on the "save the date" section, I missed the testing dates for this period.
Did I read this right that it was offered October 10th for August 2014 application period and March 20th for January 2015 application period?! So I was supposed to have looked into this since last year to turn in my score for now? If this is the case, I would need to take that PN exam coming up in October to apply for August 2015!
I'm planning on calling tomorrow for clarification, but can a student explain this to me?

I would highly recommend scheduling a meeting with the Nursing counselor --------------------- asap to get all your questions answered so that you know the information you are getting is accurate. You'll need to meet with her anyhow to complete your application anyhow.
