Montgomery College Nursing Spring 2015

Published

So I figured I would start a new thread for those applying to Montgomery College in Spring 2015.

I had applied to the nursing program in the fall of 2015 but was put on a "wait list" which was not used because my AP 1 and 2 were over 5 years old. I have since taken a pathophysiology class and so now the AP 1 and 2 will be counted towards the four core course requirements. I have a 3.45 GPA, I scored an 82.7 on my Teas, and I have all four of the required prerequisites finished.

I really hope I get in this time or I don't know what I am going to do. I have heard the spring semester is easier to get in which makes sense because you don't have all the high school seniors that will be graduating applying. Anyway good luck to everyone applying!

so my first ppd is my tb test right? I kept insisting with my doctor that I needed both but they said I was done. They said the first ppd is the tb test. That is correct right?

I just met with my PCP this morning for all of the paperwork. Getting my first PPD read on Friday, and my second one apparently needs to be done 15 days apart according to my PCP... There was also a lot of confusion around the titers that I need. Just make sure you double-check the medical forms and orders for bloodwork WHILE you are still at the doctor's office. Reviewing the forms before leaving the office saved my butt today.

For the hearing question, I apparently need to go to an Audiologist because my doctor could not complete it. I have an appointment scheduled the Monday the forms are due, but I should be good.

The PPD is a TB test. It is a skin test. You have to do 2 skin tests (PPD's) to meet their requirements. I went to my doctor for the hearing test but he just did a "whisper test" and apparently that is acceptable. I would definitely agree that you should double check your forms....

I got everything done at the UMD health center in one go too. Getting my first PPD test read tomorrow though.

MCApplicant, I really don't know what you mean by "fter I was done I asked my doctor to complete the physician form but I was told that It must be given to the Administration department and then they will send it to her. Once she fills it out she will give it back to the administration department to give to me."

My doctor filled it out right away. No problems. Though I am a tad worried because he wasn't as thorough about everything as it seems some of your doctors were. He also only wanted to do ONE PPD, but I made an appointment to get another one. But it's not 15 days apart. It's only going to be a week and a half apart from the first one. I read online that it could be as soon as a week after the first PPD. But I really am not sure. Maybe I should e-mail Ms. Matthews and ask her. Because I have another question about that drug and alcohol testing.

For the drug and alcohol testing, I know they need to have the receipt and confirmation from the website, but do you need to have an appointment date made to have it done? There's something in the packet that says something about having a date for when you are going to have it done???

I'm getting my second PPD test in a week too. The immunization clinic at the UMD health center, as well as the doctor that did my physical, said that its okay.

i also need to email Matthews about the alcohol and drug test. I'm not sure when to get the form and when to make an appointment at the lab.

I think you get the paper at your registration day. I would imagine you don't make the appointment until you have the chain of custody form. Most labs have walk in appointments anyway!

I mean I have completed everything. I have already has my blood work done and I have my results. I had to get only the mmr again (even though I was only not immune to measles....) I have had my hearing and vision test. I had my PPDs both completed (my 2nd ppd was 3 weeks from the first) and all the urinalysis, etc..... I waited until I was done with everything before having my doctor complete the paper. I was told that all paperwork must go through the administration and vital records office and they give it to her. It's some strange practice Kaiser Permanente is doing I guess but I bet it is some new practice to save them from lawsuits. i think it is not a good practice because that is a big inconvenience.

Yup, Professor Matthews said that we get the lab form (that carbon copy) on registration day. For the 2 step PPD, my doctor recommended 15 days in between for whatever reason (the paperwork specifies it can be 1 week up to 3 weeks apart). Whatever my doc says goes, since she needs to sign off on all the paperwork.

Ugh, and that process sounds like such a pain and unnecessary.

Did anyone have a problem with the hearing test portion. My hearing doctor didn't know how to fill it out. she said that was some old way of doing it she thinks. I had to take the papers and the notes that stated I was normal and take them to my regular doctor. She said she will fill it out. I hope she doesn't come back when the administration department gives it to her and say say she doesn't know how to do it. So you all got that portion done at UMD easily? Maybe I should take all my result and just go there to get the paper filled out???

I was told UMD does not do hearing or vision tests

They do vision tests. I passed my vision test with perfection. As for hearing, the doctor simply asked if I can hear, and of course, I said "with perfection", so she just put "WNL" which means 'within normal levels'. When I asked about that, she said that it's acceptable. I hope so since Prof Matthews practically sang the praises of UMD health center at orientation.
