Montgomery College, how long?

U.S.A. Maryland

Published

I sent in my application for the fall at Montgomery College today. The deadline is March 1st. Does anyone know about how long I can expect to wait before I get an answer?

Thx,

Nikki

Hey Marissa and Kristian. Please be sure to post as soon as you hear something and I will do the same. Any day now!!!!! I've heard of classmates from my last class that have already gotten word from other schools that they've been accepted into their nursing programs (UMD and GW). Why does MC take so long?

Has anyone heard that MC's nursing program was rated with the number one in the state? If you have, and can show proof, I'd love to see it.

Nikki

Nikki, I will definitely let you guys know the minute I hear.

I haven't heard that about MC, but I haven't really researched it either. I'm sure it's a good program. The price is certainly right, that's for sure. Well, that's IF we can find a place to live in Montgomery County. We still haven't been able to find anything and we've been looking for the past few months. Kind of depressing. No one wants 3 animals in their rental units. I guess I can't blame them, but we have to live somewhere. If money were no object, the search would be a heck of a lot easier.

Hi girls,

Will def. notify you as soon as I get word. If they mailed it out on Mon, it could be today but more likely Wed it'll be delivered. Haven't heard anything about MC being #1 in the state. MC's probably at least in the top 10.

Marissa- I've got my eyes and ears open for rental properties. It does make it tougher to kind with 3 animals.

Talk to you two later!

I've already checked my mail today and didn't get anything. My guess is that they won't mail it until late in the week or early next week but it won't stop me from anxiously checking every day.

Nikki- Were you thinking about taking Medical Terminology during the summer? I'm thinking about taking it but wasn't sure if that was the class you wanted to take. Do you think it'll be worth taking?

Yes, there are two of them. I was just going to try to take the first one but they are booked full for the summer (at least the online ones are). I am on the wait list but I doubt I get a slot. I was thinking of maybe just getting a book and reading it over this summer. You can look to see what textbook they are using for the class.

I saw the online class has a long waiting list. I registered for the evening class, haven't decided yet to keep it. Getting a book to read yourself is a good plan. Do you think there will be a true advantage of having taken it for the program?

I've been told by a few people it was helpful, particularly while on clinicals. I'm just not sure I would remember more than 5% of what we learn. I might be better off just carrying around a pocket guide. LOL ;-)

I'm sure it'll be plenty to remember. I feel like I've lost a lot of what I learned in A & P, might need to read up on things before the fall. A pocket guide def. make sense.

A big reason MC is accepting people later than UM or GW is that MC's deadline was 1 April where UMB had a 1 Feb deadline (and took until April 12th to send letters of acceptance).

MC is ranked #2 by NCLEX pass rates (after CCBC). MD BON has the data.

Although I am not sure how great of a measure pass rates are of a whole program. That one stat doesn't take into consideration the amount of students that graduated on time vs the students that started and failed due to school weeding.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad new girls. In my anxiety, I've contacted 3 people at MC to try to find out when the letters will be going out. I just heard back from one of them, Colleen Townsend (nursing program administrative aide), and was informed that the letters would be sent out "BY THE END OF THIS MONTH". I'll let you know if I hear anything different from the other two contacts.

Hmm, that seems odd that the Acting Registrar would give me misinformation, esp. since the letters come directly from the Office of Admissions. Whenever I've had questions regarding my application, etc, Colleen has always referred me to the Office of Admissions. I'll guess we'll know for sure by tomorrow or this weekend.
