Montgomery College, Fall 2011, 1st semester students

Published

Here is our new thread ladies (Nikki, Andrea, Kristian, Marissa...and whoever else will be starting at MC this fall).

Yeah, will need to ck the email settings, at this rate I'll get a dozen more updates. Seems like there's a rush now to get the Teas done for spring apps. A friend of mine is trying to study and take it within a wk. Not the best idea, but if pressed for time, there aren't too many options.

Which Lab corp. is the one to make appt. with?...georgia ave.?

Thanks

Hi Tina,

Yes, Georgia Ave. (There's also Glebe Rd.)

Yea they extended the deadline for spring applications. So I imagine those who didn't get in this semester may be trying to secure a spot for spring semester by upping their TEAS score, plus those who haven't even taken it yet.

I'm so glad that parts over! Have you continued to read the chapters? Of course, I found distractions to postpone reading all weekend. It's been hard to buckle down and do that after being on break from school.

OMG, I'm exhausted. Been running around all morning then got to experience a temper tantrum in Target.

Andrea - glad you like your timex. You will have to help me figure it out. I got mine but haven't had the time to futz with it yet.

I interviewed the lady I was talking about yesterday. I bascially told her I had chosen her. But now I am not so sure I am making the right choice. I posted on facebook and people told me I would just know. She seems great and all but she is going to have up to 6 kids there. Three are her own, one would be Liam, and then 2 others. One of the others is an infant, the other is Liam's age. Her kids are 8 mos, 2, and 3/4. She was very patient and attentive to the kids but the space seemed rather cramped for me. Especially for that many kids. And her house is in the opposite direction that I'd need to go and would add time to my morning commute. I guess that isn't such a big deal. The lady from the first day care never called back which is a total negative for me.

Wow, lucky you lol! Yeah, those tantrums are enough to deter ppl from having kids. My hubby always gives me a horrified look when we witness that lol!

What's the ideal child to caregiver ratio? Did she mention anything about having an assistant?

Yeah, there was an older woman sitting next to us and I could see she was irritated. BUt lucky for her she didn't say anything. If she had I think my head would have spun all the way around and I'd of gone Poltergeist on her.

Anyhow, I asked her if she was planning to get help and she said no. She said county law allows her to have up to 8 kids but only 2 can be under a year. Three of the kids are hers and I think all the kids she got are part time so she wouldn't necessarily have all the kids at once. And her oldest is in preschool 4x/wk until 3:30. So I guess it wouldn't be that bad.

LOL!! Or gone Exorsist!

Being a teacher, she should be able to handle them. I saw the video you posted, she gives off good vibes. I'd try it for a semester and see how Liam progresses.

Nikki, sounds like you had one of those awesome Mom days ;) Lol glad you guys got home in one piece! I saw the video and I agree with Kristian...def some good vibes there. She's right about the number of kids, but I think there's also a regulation about how many kids per square foot of space or something like that. Maybe you can find all that info in here:

Not sure what the assistant's problem was....any potential new business should be treated with the utmost respect, in my opinion.

The Timex watch is really nice. The directions kind of messed with my head a little but basically all you have to know is that "START/STOP" increases values, "MODE" changes the screen, and "SET" completes what you're doing. It took me a good 20 minutes of fiddling to get it right, but I love all the options for alarms, chiming on the hour every hour, a second time zone, etc. Pretty cool :)

Oh man, your watch sounds awesome! It's making me re-think my choice.

Wouldn't she have had an inspection for all codes, etc. before she opened for business?
