Montefiore School of Nursing Fall 2015/Kaplan Exam

Published

There doesn't seem to be anyone else on AN who is applying to MSON for the fall term but I'll update just in case anyone else is searching (fruitlessly) for some info. I took the Kaplan Admissions Test/Entrance Exam/KAT Test on Friday so I'm just going to share some info and advice that will hopefully be helpful to whoever comes across it, not just those applying to Montefiore. If you are applying to Montefiore School of Nursing it works like this:

1. You send in all of your application materials along with a $40 money order. You will receive a checklist of any missing application materials about a week later if there is anything missing from your file.

2.If you meet the requirements they send you an invitation to take the KAT test. The invitation I got was by email, they may have sent something by mail but I haven't checked. The invitation comes with a list of dates and times of which you will pick three ordered from your first to third choice. They will confirm with you which date and time you are scheduled for. I got my first choice which was Friday April 24th.

3.In the invitation email you will have received attachments with the suggested study guide, which is Kaplan's guide for Nursing School Entrance Exams. I did not purchase it and it seems that a majority of those who did found it to be useless. See below for info on the test which I got a composite score of 85 on. The school will begin sending out decision letters on May 11th.

The test consisted of 91 questions total for a total of 165 minutes.

There are 4 sections:

Reading-22 questions/45 minutes

Math-21 questions/45 minutes

Writing-21 questions/45 minutes

Science-20 questions/30 minutes

I took my test on a computer using sign in info provided by the proctor. There is a calculator button that you can press if you need a calc. You can go back to previous questions within a section but not back to previous sections. I was the first to finsih, I'd say it took me about an hour to finish and I got my results immediately and will be receiving a copy in the mail.

I only studied for the science section because it's agreed that it's the most difficult. I studied using Khan Academy because it consisted only of A&P questions. I studied every system that my invitation letter said would be included. That did NOT help. I honestly don't think that there is any real way to study for most of the questions that are on this test's science question apart from those on the cardiovascular system. I got 90s in every section except for the science section, go figure, I got a 60 there. Dismal, I know. I honestly cannot offer any advice as to how to study for this part of the exam because of the nature of the questions.

Thanks for the info @RN.J.

1.Were there any official events or any resources provided to find internships/externships/jobs?

2.can we really buy any ciel blue pants ?

3.how long do uniforms take to be delivered if you can remember?

4.how have you found the job search as an ADN RN in this "BSN Required" world?

5.did you work while attending school?

lol sorry I know that's a lot of questions

Hi!

1. there were not official events, although they always emailed job postings to us. Our class talked about trying to set up a nursing student with previous grads to help mentor they with job searches and the like but nothing really stuck. This is still something that our president from our class is working on though!

2. I personally wore different pants because the cherokee ones just didn't fit right and no one said anything to me!

3. When I started it was still dorothea Hopfer so the transition to the new uniforms was different with us so I can's speak to that unfortunately.

4 & 5. I did work full time in a hospital setting with attending school. I didn't start my job until N3 though. That leads me to my next point. I graduated, took my NCLEX within a week and a half and had a position a couple of days later within the hospital I had worked at. I know even my hospitals prefers BSNs, so I had registered for a BSN program right away. there are a few schools who will let you register or even start your BSN during the last semester of nursing school or before you pass your NCLEX. I know 5 others have also found jobs so far and it has only been 2 months since graduation (Most half our class still has not sat for the NCLEX).

overall when I started my job I felt highly prepared to have my own patient load and I felt very comfortable, monte prepared us well.

Feel free to ask any more questions!

thank you so much @RN.J. I just have one more question lol what were you doing for work during school and any of your classmates you know about? I am taking my CNA state exam in a few weeks and I'm hoping I can get a CNA job with monte but idk what I'll do if that doesn't work out

Any suggestions. I am taking my KAT exam at montefiore school of nursing in October? I gave them my TEAS score which I got a 60 it says proficient, they said they don't take that. So I will be taking the KAT on october I pray that I will pass it and get into montefiore in January. Any advice please

Go to the first page of this thread. I went into great detail. Lots of tips

I just got my acceptance letter to take the admission test.... not good with timed test or testing period. Does anyone know the score that they are looking for to get in? I read some of the previous post a lot of the people stated they were in the 70's and 80's. When (staying positive) I pass this test I should be starting in Jan2016

I would say you need to aim for a 70 at least on the KAT

Your information was helpful but I been studying for awhile now. I take the next Friday to get in Carrington College. I been studying from the Kaplan book. I hope it helps. But I will try my best. Do anybody knows any other website that will ? Thanks..
