There doesn't seem to be anyone else on AN who is applying to MSON for the fall term but I'll update just in case anyone else is searching (fruitlessly) for some info. I took the Kaplan Admissions Test/Entrance Exam/KAT Test on Friday so I'm just going to share some info and advice that will hopefully be helpful to whoever comes across it, not just those applying to Montefiore. If you are applying to Montefiore School of Nursing it works like this:
1. You send in all of your application materials along with a $40 money order. You will receive a checklist of any missing application materials about a week later if there is anything missing from your file.
2.If you meet the requirements they send you an invitation to take the KAT test. The invitation I got was by email, they may have sent something by mail but I haven't checked. The invitation comes with a list of dates and times of which you will pick three ordered from your first to third choice. They will confirm with you which date and time you are scheduled for. I got my first choice which was Friday April 24th.
3.In the invitation email you will have received attachments with the suggested study guide, which is Kaplan's guide for Nursing School Entrance Exams. I did not purchase it and it seems that a majority of those who did found it to be useless. See below for info on the test which I got a composite score of 85 on. The school will begin sending out decision letters on May 11th.
The test consisted of 91 questions total for a total of 165 minutes.
There are 4 sections:
Reading-22 questions/45 minutes
Math-21 questions/45 minutes
Writing-21 questions/45 minutes
Science-20 questions/30 minutes
I took my test on a computer using sign in info provided by the proctor. There is a calculator button that you can press if you need a calc. You can go back to previous questions within a section but not back to previous sections. I was the first to finsih, I'd say it took me about an hour to finish and I got my results immediately and will be receiving a copy in the mail.
I only studied for the science section because it's agreed that it's the most difficult. I studied using Khan Academy because it consisted only of A&P questions. I studied every system that my invitation letter said would be included. That did NOT help. I honestly don't think that there is any real way to study for most of the questions that are on this test's science question apart from those on the cardiovascular system. I got 90s in every section except for the science section, go figure, I got a 60 there. Dismal, I know. I honestly cannot offer any advice as to how to study for this part of the exam because of the nature of the questions.
Hello,
I am a student at Westchester Community College and I am looking for schools to transfer to. I have a 3.48 GPA and I have taken:
Nutrition, Sociology, Phycology, College Algebra, A+P1, Nutrition, CPR, Dosage Calculations, and I'm currently taking A+P2.
I've been thinking that Monte is my top school but I was wondering if there are any other students have taken many credits already who are applying into the program?
Also, how do you apply to the program/Kaplan exam?
Would you recommend Monte or any other nursing schools?
I need all the advice I can get!
Congratulations to all that have made it into the program you are all truly inspirational! Best of luck!
So I took my exam on October 30. I got my over all average but... at the bottom of the screen that shows the average for the four sections ,there is an additional average for CRITICAL THINKING. I asked the proctor what that was for and she said " don't worry about it, because we don't look at that."
That was kind of strange, why put it there if it isn't accounted for? Also isn't CRITICAL THINKING a MAJOR part of Nursing?
Yes. I did a last min search on scribe.com and a blog on Google with Kaplan exam entrance exam the night before I took my exam. Since this was my second time taking the exam I knew the blog pasted was on the right track I had the same question the year before. So I reviewed them and I scored much better on the science section this time around. I'm in the program I was trying to get in.

Hello there so I just finished the KAT exam i finished with a overall score of 65% but i have a 70 in Math, 71 in science and 73 in reading. The part in which i would never think i did terrible on is thr writing section. I guess i was so focused on doing well on the science i dropped the ball. Do you know if Monte looks at the overall acore or scores individually?
