There doesn't seem to be anyone else on AN who is applying to MSON for the fall term but I'll update just in case anyone else is searching (fruitlessly) for some info. I took the Kaplan Admissions Test/Entrance Exam/KAT Test on Friday so I'm just going to share some info and advice that will hopefully be helpful to whoever comes across it, not just those applying to Montefiore. If you are applying to Montefiore School of Nursing it works like this:
1. You send in all of your application materials along with a $40 money order. You will receive a checklist of any missing application materials about a week later if there is anything missing from your file.
2.If you meet the requirements they send you an invitation to take the KAT test. The invitation I got was by email, they may have sent something by mail but I haven't checked. The invitation comes with a list of dates and times of which you will pick three ordered from your first to third choice. They will confirm with you which date and time you are scheduled for. I got my first choice which was Friday April 24th.
3.In the invitation email you will have received attachments with the suggested study guide, which is Kaplan's guide for Nursing School Entrance Exams. I did not purchase it and it seems that a majority of those who did found it to be useless. See below for info on the test which I got a composite score of 85 on. The school will begin sending out decision letters on May 11th.
The test consisted of 91 questions total for a total of 165 minutes.
There are 4 sections:
Reading-22 questions/45 minutes
Math-21 questions/45 minutes
Writing-21 questions/45 minutes
Science-20 questions/30 minutes
I took my test on a computer using sign in info provided by the proctor. There is a calculator button that you can press if you need a calc. You can go back to previous questions within a section but not back to previous sections. I was the first to finsih, I'd say it took me about an hour to finish and I got my results immediately and will be receiving a copy in the mail.
I only studied for the science section because it's agreed that it's the most difficult. I studied using Khan Academy because it consisted only of A&P questions. I studied every system that my invitation letter said would be included. That did NOT help. I honestly don't think that there is any real way to study for most of the questions that are on this test's science question apart from those on the cardiovascular system. I got 90s in every section except for the science section, go figure, I got a 60 there. Dismal, I know. I honestly cannot offer any advice as to how to study for this part of the exam because of the nature of the questions.

I am also taking the entrance exam for Monte on the 30, I am not so hopeful after reading your thread. I have been studying the book and I can say it wasn't very helpful, but because it is the recommend one I was thinking I can't go wrong.. I guess we will see how I do when I go there today. Thanks for your thread. I couldn't find anything on the Kaplan for Monte. Good luck and I hope you get in their program..
Oh that's toady! Good luck! I still can't offer any advice on the science section not that it would be of much use now but I called them and the said that they look at your overall score and work from the highest scores down until they fill up all the spots. Let me know how you did tomorrow-well later. Hopefully we'll both get in and see each other in August
Thanks I will definitely let you know how I did. I hope that I will get a decent score.
So I did my exam today, didn't do well at all the Kaplan book is a total waste of time useless. It doesn't help you prepare for the exam , the exam is totally different from what the book is smh I don't think I will get in Monty this year my score was 57not someone told me she got a 37 on the test.
I have all my prerequisite and my GPA is 3.5. My recommendation is awesome, and I work as a nursing assistant at LiJ. I will just have to keep my fingers crossed and see how it pans out.. One guy got 76 and another got a 64 and they said they didn't use the Kaplan book most people who used the book didn't do well they got lower than I did. So I will just keep my fingers crossed.. I am pretty sure you will get in I hope I will too lets just see.

I too took the Kaplan test on April 30, 2015 and I scored very poor, so I am pretty sure and I am not getting in. I really like to the school and I hoped to get in, I do not get into any other nursing program. I will reapply for next year because there's a one year wait to retake the Kaplan. The books that I used to study were the McGraw Hill, which was okay, and Quizlet.com. I would quizlet most helpful because there was a quizlet question that was present in the Kaplan test.
I am going to reapply again next year too. I am also trying other programs as well hopefully something will work out. Good luck!!!
Keep hope alive according to their online GPA calc my prereq GPA is a 3.0 and I have a c- in micro so it's not a definite yes for me either. We just have to hope for the best
Ah yes! I took a look at quizlet from r some of the body systems. You never know keep your fingers crossed.

I got an 84 on the exam. The first time I took the exam, it was at conchron school of nursing. I scored a 70 and my lowest section was grammer. I retook it again a week later at montifore and the exam was exactly the same questions as before, but I didn't study at all except review grammer things like when to use puncutation etc.
So here is my tips for the how to do well on the exam. I don't think buying a kaplan review book was evening worth it based on its reviews on amazon and how it had alot of irrevelant things. Here is the break down:
Reading: Read the question first then look at what its asking to help you save time. Most people will read the entire passenge first which is a mistake . For example, it might tell you to look at sentence 2 and explain the meaning of a word in a different context. Basic questions will be asked such as what is the summary of paragraph 3 etc. Like I said, look at the question first.
Math: This should be an easy section for everyone cause it gives you a calculator on the test. If you simply input every problem into the calculator you should do well. Some general things to know going into the test is order of operation ( PEMDAS), fractions and finding the LCD ( least common demoniator), knowing when to flip a fraction when using division, also understand how to get a percent out of a decimal and vise versa, and last thing is know how to setup a proportion, ex: 25 professor to 100 students in fall 2015, if there is 300 students in fall 2016, how many professors? 25/100= x/300 students, notice how i put each item parallel to other. Lastly, know how to make a fraction a whole number, ex: nurse gives 1/2 oz of medication in the moring, 1/4o oz in the afternoon, nurse needs to use all the medication by the evening shift, what is the left over oz of medication nurse needs?
Science: stricly all ANP, review all systems and understand general concepts of all systems. I gotstuck on a brain question, which said what part of brain controls thought and process and it listed the different lobes. Another question was describe the flow of blood through the heart and each chamber. Like I said, general ANP stuff
Grammer: review puncutation, sentence flow, most of the questions were asking where to remove some word in the paragraph if any, to make it sound better, or it would ask which sentences in the paragraph were reptitive.
conchron school of nursing offers the exam for free at their school, its good practice, but i think you have to submit an application or something to attempt it. Which is like 35$. Call and ask.
Sorry for the long post, and some spelling errors
