I am a freshman nursing student and in my A and P class we have to learn the 12 cranial nerves. I know that there are a couple little sayings out there to help remember them but I do not remember all of the one I heard before. I know the one was a little sick, but I don't care if it helps me to remember them. I would be very appreciative if someone would reply in the forum or in email if anyone knows what I am talking about or where I could find the sayings.

Thank you very much.

Coleen, my instructor actually told us that one during a finals review. She's been a nurse for umpteen years and still remembers that one from college.

:yeah:Old Outrageous Okies try to always find virgins getting viruses at homecoming.

HAHA yup I learned the OH OH OH.... Mnemonic and five years later I still remember it. It's wonderful:) It works I tell ya.

I just had Neuro lectures

MNEMONIC for cranial nerves:

On Old Olympus' Towering Top A Finn And German Viewed Some Hops

Mnemonic motor/sensory/both:

Some Say Mary Money But My Brother Says Big Brains Matter Most

I hope these would help. ^^

I suggest you use Marieb's mnemonic- Oh Oh Oh To Touch and Feel Very Good Velvet Ah Heaven. It's more wholesome. LOL. However don't be confused with the oh oh oh. You might mis arrange the olfactory, optic, and oculomotor nerves. Just remember OLOPOC.

My instructor in Anatomy did it differently

Oh (olfactory,I)

oh (optic, II)

oh (oculormotor,III)

to (trochlear, IV)

touch (trigeminal, V)

and (abducens, VI)

feel (facial, VII)

very (vestibularcochlear, VIII)

good (glossopharangeal, IX)

velvet (vagus. X)

Ahhh (accessory, XI)

Heaven (hypoglosseal,XII)

Am I missing something, but the other neumonic seems incorrect, unless there is another name given to a nerve. My instructor used to use the word "appreciate" instead of "memorize" so that students would understand and, in fact appreciate the structures and their functions. Know the somatic, sensory, and any sympathetic or parasympathetic responses of all of these nerves as well. Know the neural pathways even if your class does not require them. It will help you down the road. This was one of the most difficult segments in my course.

Comments and corrections welcomed.

The capital letters are the first letters in the cranial nerve. Also, I have one for if they are (S) somatic, (M) motor, or (B) both. Whatever letter they start with is what they are.

Some Say Marry Money But My Brother Says Big Boobs Matter More

The one in my A&P book was :

On Occassion Our Trusty Truck Acts Funny, Very Good Vehicle AnyHow.

And for if they are motor, sensory or both:

Some Say Marry Money But My Brother Says it's Bad Business to Marry Money.

Hope this helps!!

I didn't read all the posts so if this is a repeat, forgive me.
