  1. I had a Pt. very similar to this. Very difficult but you're on the right track with tissue perfusion, fluid balance, relateld diagnoses. I don't have my care plan book handy but there are some good resources on the web that can "walk" you through some scenarios of a similar situation. A pt. like this will have lots of teaching around diet... and in the case of mine, the clinical outcome was a BKA after attempting to save his foot. Keep at it and let us know what you find out. I'll check back later. Steve
  2. To further clarify, my school said we would be taking version 4.0, but ATI only sells a study guide that is 3.0/4.0 lumped together. When I received the study guide it was a 3.0 guide. That led me to thinking they were either very similar or identical.
  3. Don't worry. I sent away for the 4.0 test study guide and got the 3.0 version. They are the same. Maybe one is just newer?
  4. How about some details GrooveMaden? I know many graduates of the program, students in the program, faculty and administration. Additionally, every nurse I've talked to about students in rotaions in North Bay hospitals praise the SRJC students and program. You make some pretty vague and strong indictments of the program, but offer no specifics. Keep your head down? Corrupt individuals? You've lost me...but I'll give you the benefit of the doubt if you explain without mentioning names... I plan on approaching my schooling with my nose to the grindstone (if that means head down, no problem), a sense of gratitude from all my instructors and their time and expertise, and the same for the hospitals and staff that open their doors to rookie students that need to learn the ropes. I can understand why the school might try to filter out those students who are not focused, take up large amounts of time for whatever reason, and slow the pace of learning... this isn't fair to students who really want to benefit from the fine instruction the school has to offer. I saw this first hand all through my science prereqs... Please clarify your post ...convince me it's not a troll post..
  5. check your email for a provisional acceptance understanding that budget cuts could chop your spot... wow Edit: It looks like the budget cut addendum is standard in the packet for both fall and spring students.
  6. I also received my acceptance for Fall 2010, but another correction came through that put me in the Spring 2011 batch... no worries... all good.
  7. Nobody that I'm aware of has been notified of acceptance today... right? Sigh.... fingers crossed
  8. Lots of people heard today around 6 PM today. I have not heard word. No email. I do have a yahoo account - nothing in the spam folder..... best to everyone
  9. Keep up the good work. You will get in a program... it may not be the CSU program like the above poster, but perserverence will pay off. Take advantage of all the resources around you. Best Steve
  10. Your best bet is to head to the horses mouth and check their website. I know a graduate from their program and he spoke well of it. All of the CSU nursing programs are intensely competitive and you will need to be near 3.8 and above with all the other requirements to make the cut. Also remember that some of the CSU's are getting upwards of 1000 applications for about 40 seats. It's really tough out there now. The general strategy for most is to apply EVERYWHERE... Good luck Steve
  11. Look at the specifics in the "special topics of chemistry". Maybe one of those is geared toward medical. The other idea would be to look from the Nursing School backwards and find out the classes they recommend and/or require and gear your search toward those classes.
  12. I just looked at chapter 8 in my current book which is "Microbiology, A Systems Approach" by McGraw Hill. It covers Krebs, the ETC, and so forth. My instructor has chosen to gloss over that material in favor of specific and non specific immunity, sterilization, identifying microbes and knowing the genus and species of important pathogenic microbes. He wants us to be able to write a general essay on the other chapters. Because Chem is a prereq for Micro, he expects us to know all the chemistry in the book. As far as your school, it makes sense to have Micro as a prereq for physio. I wish I had micro before physio. I may have been able to get an A instead of a B.
  13. If you're serious about geting A's in Anat and Physio, you will best serve yourself by taking an Allied Healthcare chem class and a good Biology class with a lab that counts as a prereq for Anat 1 I was challenged by all the major sciences, but as a 43 year old returning college student, I enjoyed the material very much. good luck Steve
  14. Interesting that Micro is requiring the Krebs and cellular respiration details. Usually that info is review and expected to be well known from Physio.
  15. I would second the reccomendation of textbook internet resources and animations. There's no magic bullet... just keep repeating the lessons and you will get it eventually.
