  1. Alot of CSU nursing programs do not have waitlists, it is purely a rumor. I would check by calling the nursing offices. I thought my school had one (SJSU) for the longest time until I went in and asked, turns out they dont and for three yrs i was worried about a rumor! haha
  2. I applied to SJSU school of nursing last october and got in on my first try. They use your gpa, teas score and 5 core classes (micro, anat, physio, stats, engli). My GPA was 3.79 in my five classes and 4.0 in all other classes. I only scored 84% on my teas test. It took me 3 years to complete my pre reqs because I had to take alot of beginner algebra classes and I only took 3 classes a semester in order to focus on my grades... SJSU applications are due a year in advance and then once you're in to the university, then you apply to the deadline for the school of nursing. I did not get accepted into Evergreen Community college even though i met their requirements, they randomly select from those people who meet the requir. A university is more work to get in but look online and see when there are informational workshops at the campuses, instructors prefer to talk to people right when they start their pre reqs. Also talk to your counselor at the school you're taking you pre reqs, they will help guide you in the right direction. Good luck!
  3. April 1st and Oct 1st for SJSU, Turn in a copy of your unopened transcript with your application packet. (Have it mailed to your home address and do not open it.) http://www.sjsu.edu/nursing/undergrad.html Its very easy to find info, each school has a sep page for Nursing.
  4. Thank you, I do plan on working 20-25 hours a week. Hopefully I will be okay since its weekend nights only. I hadn't thought about visiting during office hours to build relationships with my instructors, thanks for the advice! Alicia
  5. Thank you so much for your input, you have no idea how much I appreciate it. I will keep in mind everything you said. thank you! good luck to you as well!
  6. Hello all, Im so excited and privledged to be starting nursing school at San Jose State in late January. I am starting to feel very very nervous after looking through my books. Does anyone have any advice for me? How to handle the stress, not gain fifty pounds, and get along with my instructors(these are all things Ive heard to be challenging). any input would be nice, id love to read through them before I dive into my new nursing books. thank you Alicia
  7. Hello, It took me 3 years to do all my pre reqs in order to transfer to state. I took no more than four classes a semester in order to keep my gpa above 3.7. I had to take beginner math courses though, so it will probably take less time for someone who doesnt need them. Im assuming WCU requires english, math and sociology courses to transfer the same as Cal State. Alicia
  8. Thanks Steve. I got into SJSU's nursing program! Im so excited and nervous.
  9. I applied to evergreen and i was sent an email saying i met the requirements to get in, but they take everyone who meets the requirements and then randomly select. I was not randonly selected even though I met the requirement. I did however get into SJSU's Nursing program. Its more work to get into but worth it i hope. I suggest taking all you pre reqs at a community college and go slow and take your time in order to get excellent grades (3.5 or higher)... Gavilan colllege is 30 min outside of San jose and it is easier to get into their science classes. Alicia
  10. Hello, Unfortunately due to the budget crisis in california, all cal state schools are not accepting people who already have a bachelor's. I am not sure about the UCs here in california. Best of luck to you.
  11. Hello, I am applying all over the place and would like to know if anyone has any good info about SJSU's nursing program? I also applied to Evergreen and Cabrillo college, but SJSU is my first choice. Im not sure if SJSU will accept me and any advice or info would help me out a lot. Thanks!
  12. Your welcome, yes for your first year of nursing school you will need to have A&P and micro fresh in your memory.
  13. Hey, the test is a lot of basic skills, but A&P are definitely helpful, chemistry, algebra as well. The other stuff is like basic math, (no stats), basic science, english and reading. I waited and took all my BIOS last since they need to be in recent memory for the programs and I took the TEAS twice during the summer after I finished all my gen ed. The results from the TEAS comes within 3 to 4 days so its not necessary to take it super far in advance. Hope I helped Alicia
  14. Hey I got A's in my sciences, but you can make up for lower grades by doing better on your TEAs.
  15. Hello, I recently turned in my application for spring 2010, they said they would call me if my application was missing anything. I dont think they "toss" them and Im very nervous because the advisors make it seem like its impossible to get in. But I think you will be fine, I heard the lowest score they let in is like 9.90, but obviouslt it changes depending on the students who apply. I am not quite sure how to calculate me impaction score, they use GPA of last 30 units or total college units? and then I know the five major classes and TEAS. Anyone know about this? Alicia
