MN Program Interviews

U.S.A. Minnesota

Published

Hi Everyone,

I have my interview for the MN program at the U of M later this week. I was looking for some advice on preparing for it from anyone who may have been accepted into the program in the past. Also, any advice from others interviewing this year would be helpful.

Thanks!

Hang in there. I mean, look on this forum alone there's two people uncertain about accepting. That means there's bound to be many others. Wouldn't be surprised at all if you made it through the wait-list. Besides, many people who get wait-listed might not even wait before they "move-on." That means a bunch of those people might not want a spot in the end.

Thanks for your kind words. I know how this all goes, I have been waitlisted before and was accepted. I was just hoping not to have to be waitlisted again! You start to wonder if you are just waitlist material.

Looks like I'm going to accept my spot at the U. Not very happy about living another winter here, but I recalculated costs and turns out I'll be saving close to $30K, possibly more from all the interest I would accumulate with larger loans. Just not worth it for the same education.

Does anyone know anything about financial aid? I saw there were some scholarships offered. Are we considered grad students? I'm hoping yes so we can get grad student financial aid (less private loans!)

As far as I know. That was another perk for me about this being a grad program. I also got accepted to an accelerated BSN program, but the federal student loan allowance for one year of an undergrad program is so small, it could hardly make a dent in tuition and living expenses.

Hi everyone! I just found this thread today and I also was accepted to the U's MN program for this fall. Just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. My name is Kim and I did my prereqs at IHCC and the U. So far I only know one other student personally who has been accepted but I'm hoping to make some good friends so we can all help support each other through what I'm guessing will be the most challenging 16 months of our lives. Congratulations to everyone else who was accepted and keep your chin up to those who are on the waitlist. My former A&P teacher who is in the program now knew of at least 5 people who got in from the waitlist during the second week of classes when she started last fall.

Hi everyone,

I just found this thread and also just got accepted into the MN program at the U. Thought I would follow Kim's example and introduce myself. My name is Ellen. I did my pre-reqs at the U. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone in person.

I was waitlisted for the ABSN option at Mankato for roughly 2 weeks. Being on the waitlist is a good thing. I started applying for waitlists at other colleges based on the letter. It did lead to an offer from MSU.

Best of luck!

You can apply for waitlists? How do you go about doing that?

Contact the nursing programs admission coordinators and ask to be considered for their waitlist (I emphasized my willingness to start on short notice.). All they can do is say no.

Congratulations, you guys. I've been an RN since 1983 (although currently disabled/bedridden due to a bad heart) and my hubby is currently in the U program. We live 4 hrs north of the Twin Cities and have 3 daughters (2 in college) so it has been quite the yr!

Just wanted to say that yes, you are considered a grad student and can get grad school loans. Also wanted to add that there is an application for financial aid when hubby filled out - and he was granted a scholarship for about $2000 which helps. He later attended a luncheon for recipients of nursing scholarships and there was only 1 other person there from his program. It made us think that they don't have much in terms of non-loan assistance for this program, but we were very grateful for whatever he got!

It's a tough, demanding academic load, and hubby still has to work on wknds to keep supporting our family, but he is quite happy with the education he is getting in the program and will be VERY thankful when December 2010 comes around! :-)
