Minnesota New Grad RN Payscales
The MN program. . .wow. It's a hard question to answer honestly. Technically I'd do it all again, so far. There are a lot of things that really bug me about it. Maybe it's because my undergrad was at a private school (Bethel) or that I've had some really incredible teachers at community colleges—I felt very let down overall in terms of teaching abilities, organization, relevance, etc. At the same time I've heard similar stories about other nursing programs. My previous degree was in communication so I'm particularly critical of presentations, clarity, and other communication driven issues. I'd do it again b/c it's the fastest most efficient route to do the things I want. The clinicals are excellent! And many of the teachers are really cool. Dr. A in advanced physiology is one of the top teachers ever anywhere! Good luck to you, and overall I'd say the program still makes sense.

I'm sure this gets asked frequently, but I can't seem to find an answer specific to MN new grads. I'm interested in working in the Allina system in MN. I'm currently in the UMN MN (master of nursing) program. I'd love to get a job at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids MN which is an Allina hospital. I'm wondering what the starting payscale is there for new RNs, and if anyone knows what the pay differentials are. I've heard there's a small bump for having a masters degree. I know there can be a bump for nights or weekends or both. Any info specific to MN would be great, especially Allina. Thanks much-- Ryan

Hang in there. I mean, look on this forum alone there's two people uncertain about accepting. That means there's bound to be many others. Wouldn't be surprised at all if you made it through the wait-list. Besides, many people who get wait-listed might not even wait before they "move-on." That means a bunch of those people might not want a spot in the end.

"I'm feeling lazy about moving to a place where I know almost no one. I've done it before, I can do it again, but it's hard work. Although, you all seem cool, so that's encouraging" Thing is, you're going to busy in this program. You might not have time for other people. Besides, when you know fewer people it's easier to keep your GPA high for later admittance to an even more competitive program. )

I'll wait a while longer. Did your email appear to be a group email or individual? Also, they may be sending smaller group emails to the groups from the interviewers. Each interviewer probably has their own two lists that have to be notified. So you two might have been with a different interviewer? Or perhaps the emails are completely individual? Who knows. I'm trying not to get too worried yet. -- reh

I had mine yesterday morning. I think it went really well too. The only thing is that because it's so conversational it's hard to tell if you've really answered their questions. I mean she asks something, I say something, she asks something else and suddenly we're both on tangents. But I got positive feedback about my essay so I think that's a good sign. )
