MN Program Interviews

U.S.A. Minnesota

Published

Hi Everyone,

I have my interview for the MN program at the U of M later this week. I was looking for some advice on preparing for it from anyone who may have been accepted into the program in the past. Also, any advice from others interviewing this year would be helpful.

Thanks!

I haven't head anything yet. Hmmm

I'll wait a while longer.

Did your email appear to be a group email or individual?

Also, they may be sending smaller group emails to the groups from the interviewers.

Each interviewer probably has their own two lists that have to be notified.

So you two might have been with a different interviewer?

Or perhaps the emails are completely individual?

Who knows. I'm trying not to get too worried yet.

My email was addressed to me personally. I received it at 8:45 am, and the email was from the admissions coordinator.

You're way more patient than I am! Good luck to you.

Still no word here yet. I'll keep you posted. Probably won't find out until tomorrow.

mld-- I hear you on your headache over the decision! I got an acceptance email today too, and am pretty set on going but also had an acceptance from a nice but super pricey univ out of the area too. I've also moved back to the MN after being gone since I was little, so don't know too many people, but do have family here, which I think makes a big difference. And if you stay here, you'd get to know all of US, which would be awesome, right? And the U has a great program and the cost is a big incentive for me in comparison to private. I was thinking about doing a tuition reimbursement thing too but then wondered what I'd like to be doing after I graduate, where I'd like to go, and found I had no idea, so I think having less debt and more freedom, for me at least, is the way to go. So come to the U! Have I convinced you yet?

Hey, I got in too!

I'm still on the fence. I live in Madison, WI, and I'll hear from UW in May about their BSN program. MAY! The people Minnesota SON just seem friendlier than the people I've spoken to at Madison's SON, they give you the courtesy of letting you know if you're admitted before May, the program's shorter, and we'll get masters degrees. I'm looking forward to being able to just say "yes" when people ask if I'm in grad school - rather than trying to explain the details of nursing education requirements. But, I'm feeling lazy about moving to a place where I know almost no one. I've done it before, I can do it again, but it's hard work.

Although, you all seem cool, so that's encouraging!

Molly-

it's nice to hear someone in the same boat as me. I've spoken with several of my friends, some who are RN's/NP's and some who are just in the health industry...EVERYONE said go get my RN where it is cheapest as I'm going to be taking tons of loans out to get my DNP or CRNA. I don't think I'm going to get any lesser an education at the U vs. Duke so I guess I'm back in the Minnesota boat (which is the boat I was in about 6 months ago). It's a huge relief knowing I don't have to pick up and move in a few months across the country AGAIN. However, I'm jonesin' to leave Minnesota as soon as I graduate (hopefully the west coast!)

I hear you on both points!

I am IN. Crazy email filter somehow caught the one message that I was waiting for.

All of her other correspondence has come no problem. But there it was in my junk.

Thing is, you're going to busy in this program. You might not have time for other people. Besides, when you know fewer people it's easier to keep your GPA high for later admittance to an even more competitive program. :o)

Congratulations everyone! I unfortunately was waitlisted :crying2: but I am keeping my head up that maybe I will still get a spot. I shouldn't complain, I was accepted to St. Kate's Post-Bac program so I will be a nurse someday! But you always want your top pick. The good thing is I was told only 20 people got waitlisted, so not everyone from the interviews was put on the waitlist if they didn't get accepted. Oh well, keep on applying I guess!
