Hi guys! I thought it would be a great idea to start a new thread for those of us who are planning on applying to Modesto Junior College RN program. It would be great if we would all share with how many points we are applying with, this would give us an idea to see what are our chances are on getting in the program. With all the new changes, it is hard to tell what the cutoff on the points will be. I will be retaking my TEAS and hoping to apply with maybe 80 points or so. Hopefully ?????
Oh man... this thread got kind of heated. SwiftRN, you seem quite confident with a score in the high 70's, which is a great accomplishment, but the merit based cut off may be higher than ever this year, so it's quite possible you might be relying on the lottery for entrance. Personally, I think that the new merit based to lottery ratio is quite fair at MJC. I have about a year of prerequisites left, and so far I've managed to get straight A's and I'm projecting an MSPAR score of between 80-85. That being said, I can see how quickly that score can drop if your attention is diverted from school even for a few weeks, so even if something did happen to lower my score, it's nice to know I'd still have a chance. I have one kid (2yo), and work two jobs and I struggle to get everything done sometimes, luckily I have a wife and family who help out a lot.
Everyone who has got to the point of apply for nursing school has worked their orifices off. Yes, good grades are important, and the work ethic needed to get those grades is even more important, but as others have stated, good grades aren't everything. If you have that work ethic, the passion, drive, and perseverance to become an RN, then you will get there one way or another.
I'm living vicariously through you guys, and I'm rooting for all of you! I actually just got to tour the MJC nursing program facility which has increased my excitement to get in even more.

I live in Sacramento. The furthest program that I applied to would be Santa Rosa JC at 2 hours away. I applied to some programs in the Bay Area as well, but I have family and friends in the Bay (where I am from) so I figure I can surf couches during the week and come back home to Sac on weekends for work.

Delta is on the far side so I’m going to wait until September to apply there if i dont get in to one of the previously mentioned. I also intend to apply to Stan in September as well. Salinas is not as far as Stockton would be but I am not a huge fan of driving over the hill lol so we will see how things turn out. Again good luck to all
I’m from LB too! I applied to MJC, COS, WHCL, Fresno city and Hartnell so far. Might do delta but I’m not sure yet, it’s too far and I don’t have any family over there to stay at. I’m hoping for good news though! Good luck to you and everyone else!
Geez I thought you were done already lol..you don't sound like a realist you sound like a pessimist who lack compassion for others. The nursing department obviously knows what they are doing when they decided to include a SMALL portion for lottery. I'm not sure what you are SO concerned about?? If your points are high then why are so concerned with the lottery?? You should be a sure in right? MJC used to ONLY be lottery so imagine all the screws ups that are in the hospitals calling themselves nurses because of that Lol ?♀️?♀️ You really need to humble yourself and if you were fortunate enough to have no trials during your schooling then great for you but not everyone walks the same path. And that's okay we need a VARIETY of nurses, not just those who haven't experienced trials and tribulations such as yourself. We all have strengths and weaknesses. Idk how you were raised or your background but I come from a place that doesn't judge because I know we ALL have a story and no one person is better then the next. You should definitely think about adopting that ideology because you are entering a field that if your lack of compassion isn't there you are doing your patients a HUGE disservice. Life isn't that black and white and for the record my points are in the 70's and if someone in the 60's takes a lottery spot it just wasn't meant to be. God is in control remember that???

You are the only one complaining about points and not getting in because of lottery. The cut off point for merit will be the cut off point no matter what. Lottery is not hurting people’s chances that much. And it’s not guaranteed that someone in the 60’s will get in. It’s a roll of the dice. But you have NO RIGHT to say that anybody is less deserving. You have NO RIGHT to say that that person will not make it in nursing school. If anybody's comments are ignorant, it is YOURS. Nursing isn’t just your book smarts sweetie? It’s a lot of people skills which is something you obviously lack. Now I wish everybody the best of luck and I hope you get in but I also hope that somebody with lower points gets in and does just as well, if not better than you.
