Missouri Nursing Pay Rates

U.S.A. Missouri

With the economy and time that the country has gone through and where I have heard some say there is a nursing shortage and then there are those who say the field is getting saturated.

Let me clarify before I am judged negatively, I love nursing and its aspects but getting a reasonable wage of living is also a priority as it is the reason why we go to school and it is the main focus of what I am asking.

A couple of friends of mine say they do not get paid well for their work as a nurse! I was wondering how much pay rates are now for new graduates or current workers of hospitals such as BJC, SSM, Mercy, etc?

Specializes in ICU.

I believe BJC's new grad starting rate is right around $23/hr.

That is pretty sweet. Do you currently work at a BJC affiliated hospital right now?

Specializes in NICU, High-Risk L&D, IBCLC.

Nursing wages will be in line with local economies, but I have to say that I've always enjoyed stable middle class wages as a RN. Starting rate quoted above sounds about right, and that's not including differentials (nights, weekends, holidays, etc.). I worked at a SSM facility back in 2010 and was able to command a higher wage by choosing their weekend option program (my base rate was around $23/hr. with 3 years of experience plus an additional $8/hr. for weekend option).

Nursing will most likely never make you rich, but you will live comfortably.

Thank you so much for your reply! I appreciate it! I am not expecting to be rich off nursing, it is more of the reality of where my income or expectations of living will be. My goal is actually to go to CRNA school and I have already started the pre-requisites of Organic Chemistry and Physics before I have finished nursing school.

I've worked at BJH for 6 1/2 years and started out making $20.60 as a new grad with BSN. I'm almost positive base pay is the same for new grads today, give or take a dollar.

new grad rates at BJC are $22.75 plus $6 weekend diff and $3 night differential

Any idea on pay that seasoned nurse (14 years) would make in saint Louis in the cath lab?
