I saw on the news where a local couple in their 80's disappeared. They were found 2 days later one state away alive. They went out to eat and got lost. They both have 'short-term memory loss and dementia'. Why on earth would their children let them go out alone???? I'm happy this story had a positive outcome, but sad that it even came to this.
A friend of mine had a father who would just disappear like that and show up in neighboring towns and even a neighboring state once. He was in the Marines so he could not care for him like he should and his sisters did not care. When he was home on leave, his father called him to go get him because he was lost again and had damaged his car.
What had happened was that he had hit someone and did not realize it. Part of a hand along with a wrist watch was wedge between the bumper and grill. The truly scary part, they never found who he hit and no one was reported missing anywhere there or in the surrounding counties.
Whoa.
Probably some poor drifter or hitchiker that no one knew where he was. Wound up knocked into a ditch and never found again. The area where my friend lived is very prone to flooding so if it rained soon after that and the body was in a ditch, chances are it washed away would never be found.
Had they gotten lost? What happened to them?[/quoteIt is believed that they ran their car off the road and became disoriented, there were no injuries, they were just sitting there in the car when the hunters found them. They went missing in the summer and it was very hot, but they were found in Nov. I remember following this story for months thinking that someone kidnapped them or that they would find their car in the river or something. It was very sad when they found these women on the side of the road in their car alone.
My mother was just 64 when she died of unknown causes in her apt. She was not found for approx. 4 days. There are 3 of us kids, all 3 of us left home by the time we were 16 years old to get away from her. She was one of the meanest people on the earth. I would try over the years to get to know her and it would fail. She was just mean and hateful. She was a hermit and had no friends that I know of. The only reason that the neighbor got the manager of the place was there was a package from the post office at her door for 3 days and that was not like her. She had died in her sleep at some point. No will, no life insurance. I had to pay for everything even after she died.
It's NOT always the kids fault! I can't tell you how much money I have spent on her over the years trying to make her life better because "I OWE her". I have had 4 years of peace now. I am sorry she died but she is in a better place. (other 2 kids could care less)
Wow, what a story, I am so sorry you had such a bum deal- although you turned out pretty good and as I say- from some people we learn how to do things and from some we learn how NOT to do things- I am hoping you and your sibs can raise your families in a loving , warm environment.
What a special thing you did by spending your money for her funeral. In the jewish religion it is considered the highest form of charity as she can never repay you.
Of course it is not always the kids fault- noone is blaming you or anyone- your mother chose her way of life- (I wonder why?)
Why did you keep trying to get to know her if she hurt you so much? You must be a very forgiving and special person, I am sure you gave her more than you realize.
I am glad you have peace now.
Here in Western Pa we never get through a hunting season without hunters finding the body of a missing person. Frequently the area where the remains are found was searched earlier in the year, but it is not until winter makes the follage die off can anyone can see them. About 20 years ago a local man disappeared after his house blew up. A year or two after that his remains found about a half mile from the destroyed home. It was found by hunters in late fall or early winter as is usually the case. It was thought that the home was filled with natural gas from a leak. He turned on the shower which caused the hot water tank to ignite and that caused the explosion. He then either then thrown and then staggered out of the house and wandered in a daze into the woods where he collasped and died. For the longest time no one knew what happened to him till the hunters found his remains. So far this hunting season no reports of hunters finding anyone but the season is not over.Had they gotten lost? What happened to them?[/quoteIt is believed that they ran their car off the road and became disoriented, there were no injuries, they were just sitting there in the car when the hunters found them. I am so sorry to hear this, but I understand a lot of what you say. My parents are"odd" for lack of a better word. They are not abusive, but not loving or cuddly. They are just kind of cold, distant, and guarded. They are not overtly mean. My sister has a lot of anger re. this, but I know it could worse, as your situation is. I have used them as an example of how not to be in many respects. My relationship to my kids is much better than theirs is w/ my siter and I. They are quite secretive and I do worry as they get older. They love to take the phone off off the hook for days at a time, because they have had too many telemarketer calls or are "busy." It sounds odd and to some may seem like sx's of dementia or paranoia, but they have acted like this since I can remember. I cannot change them and I have accepted that. It is not that I do not care, but rather that I must meet them where they are at and live with it. I do not know what will happen when one of them passes away. Asking what their plans are is not much of an option because it will be met w/ the response that I "want money" or "want to control them." I must wait, see, and pray that all will be okay.
