MiraCosta Palomar Fall 2017 ADN

Published

Hi everyone,

I'm starting this thread for those of us that applied to MiraCosta and/or Palomar's Fall 2017 ADN cohorts! Please share your stats/points and any insight on either program if you have any :).

I calculated 85/86 pts depending on life credits. I scored 88 on the TEAS 6, 3.6 science, 4.0 gen eds. I'm also an Emt, worked at a hospital, and have an AA degree.

I know MiraCosta only takes 20 and I believe Palomar is 36. I did almost all of my pre-reqs through MCC and I've been told It has been really impacted the last few cycles. 85-89 was the point range for spring 2017 at mcc! I'll be happy to get into either but Im not sure on the major differences between the two programs.

Good luck to everyone, I'll be anxiously waiting the next 4-6 weeks! 😬

Hello everyone! congrats to everyone! I had about 84 points at palomar. no i am stuck at which one to choose between palomar or grossmont! any advice?

Does everyone live close to the school?

Congrats @thatperson! I wish I knew more about each program, I'm excited to hear more at orientation:)

@jazzd171 I'm in north PB/birdrock area so not exactly close lol. I commuted to MiraCosta for my pre reqs and it wasn't too bad since traffic goes the opposite way in the morning. I'm about 45-50 minutes from Palomar.

When do they send out alternates notifications?

People that got acceptances have to accept/deny by Monday at 4pm, so they'll probably send out the second round on Tuesday or Wednesday. Orientation is May 16, so they're probably try and get most of them out before then.

Can someone please help me interpret this email I got from the nursing department at Palomar when I asked if I'm 100% not in? Does it sound like I have a good chance now or is it false hope?!

"Hi Megan,

Don't give up quite yet. I believe you will get accepted but all I did today was notify the top 36. Your points are extremely high but this was an unusually high points group. They have until Monday to accept but I have no way of knowing who will accept and who will not. Hang in there. I know you did a great job increasing your points since you last applied in fall 2016."

I wouldn't give up hope :). She's saying that although you aren't in the initial top 36 of applicants, you still have a good chance of getting in because not everyone may accept a spot in the program. But since she won't know how many people are going to give up their spots, she can't give you a definite answer. If she is telling you she thinks you have a good chance at getting in, you must be pretty close to being in the top 36, probably top 40 of applicants. Hang in there!

Considering how abnormally high the points were at MiraCosta this time around, I'm sure Palomar saw the same thing. There are probably lots of people who are on their second or more time applying and are coming back with more points due to how hard it's becoming to get in. I think it's causing the point cutoffs to increase every cycle.

I was at the same situation as you.

I emailed them on Thursday asking that same question and she told me to that I should feel confident about my placement because I had very competitive points and got my acceptance letter Friday morning! :)

Hopefully I get one then!!! I don't wanna get my hopes up

I emailed Gail on Friday and gave up my spot at Palomar. I decided to go with Mira Costa. Good luck.

Congrats on getting into both and thank you cuz now I have a better chance!:)

I will actually be retracting my acceptance because I got accepted into a school closer to me, good luck to everyone else!
