Hi everyone,
I'm starting this thread for those of us that applied to MiraCosta and/or Palomar's Fall 2017 ADN cohorts! Please share your stats/points and any insight on either program if you have any :).
I calculated 85/86 pts depending on life credits. I scored 88 on the TEAS 6, 3.6 science, 4.0 gen eds. I'm also an Emt, worked at a hospital, and have an AA degree.
I know MiraCosta only takes 20 and I believe Palomar is 36. I did almost all of my pre-reqs through MCC and I've been told It has been really impacted the last few cycles. 85-89 was the point range for spring 2017 at mcc! I'll be happy to get into either but Im not sure on the major differences between the two programs.
Good luck to everyone, I'll be anxiously waiting the next 4-6 weeks! 😬
It was a hard decision especially since I've done all of my prerequisites at Palomar. It's closer to my house the class hours are better and i like the small cohort size. The staff have always been very nice and knowledgeable. The 78 is terrible in the morning heading east past emerald too. Mira Costa overall just felt like a better decision to me. School is going to be hard and stressful enough so hopefully the "laid back" approach will make it easier. And it's the #3 RN School in the state as far as first time pass rates on the nclex. Palomar was #22 I think, still good but that also factored into my decision. Sorry for rambling.
Thank you for sharing @Kyrdee! I've been browsing through old posts trying to see if any posts would sway me one way or another. But ultimately, I would go to any school that would be okay with me just having two of the three series of the Hep B shots. MiraCosta is closer to my house as well. Someone said I should check out the rate my professor for the nursing instructors, because I really don't do too well if I get bad instructors. So I'll probably do that today.
Hopefully you hear back! I got my acceptance this morning! People have till 4pm to accept or deny
CONGRATS!! I was rooting for you
And thanks for your input @kyrdee :) I've heard both are strong programs. I took my prerequisites at mcc and all the instructors have been great. I know I'll be happy with either, but I'm still on the alternate list for Mcc and want to start a program in the fall. No other alternates have replied to this thread. Im leaning towards Palomar right now, excited to get some more info at orientation.
