MiraCosta Palomar Fall 2017 ADN

Published

Hi everyone,

I'm starting this thread for those of us that applied to MiraCosta and/or Palomar's Fall 2017 ADN cohorts! Please share your stats/points and any insight on either program if you have any :).

I calculated 85/86 pts depending on life credits. I scored 88 on the TEAS 6, 3.6 science, 4.0 gen eds. I'm also an Emt, worked at a hospital, and have an AA degree.

I know MiraCosta only takes 20 and I believe Palomar is 36. I did almost all of my pre-reqs through MCC and I've been told It has been really impacted the last few cycles. 85-89 was the point range for spring 2017 at mcc! I'll be happy to get into either but Im not sure on the major differences between the two programs.

Good luck to everyone, I'll be anxiously waiting the next 4-6 weeks! 😬

Can anyone confirm if either school offers online or hybrid classes. I swear I heard that MCC has an online component to some classes. That would really cut down on driving, if true.

MiraCosta does have some hybrid courses but you are still in class 4 days per week for the first half of first semester and then 3 days including clinical the second half. But on Monday the class is only from 1-3pm and Tuesday Wednesday Thursday's are 9-1:30(tue) and 9-3:35(w/th). The second half of the semester you have class two days a week and then clinical for 10 hrs on wed or thurs.

If you email the nursing secretary and ask about the schedule she can send it to you. Or if you message me I can send it to you. She said it's tentative but I don't think it will change much if it does.

Palomar didn't have any online classes listed on their schedule for first semester.

I just retracted my acceptance to Palomar and have decided to go to MiraCosta :). I met quite a few alternates at orientation so there should be another spot opening up for someone!

I am choosing to go to Grossmont because of their partnership with PLNU and SDSU.

MCC also partners with PLNU and I think palomar does as well

MCC has some hybrid portions of each class.

Hi @Jmeee I had followed another thread you posted on, and if I'm correct you chose MiraCosta for spring 2017. How do you like the program so far? Any insight would be great! :)

I like MiraCostas program a lot and I'm glad I chose it.. No matter what program you choose it'll be a lot of work, but I feel like we had a great semester.. And our instructors are great as well.. Anyway good luck and have fun this summer before you get busy in the fall.

Thank you for this info! Saved me a phone call. I'll be seeing you at MC in July :) Congrats.

Hi @Larocquh I have been reading these posts for information. I was accepted as an alternate at MCC for Fall 2018 and recently accepted to Palomar's program for Fall 2018. If you have the time, I would love if you could tell me about your experience at MiraCosta. I want to for sure start in the Fall, and I have done pre-recs at MiraCosta.

@jogropal I sent you a pm :)

Hi again @Larocquh I got your PM but I am not able to reply (allnurses requires 15 posts before access to PM). Thank you so much for taking the time to write all of this out, I am so excited to start the program and what you told me about MCC sounds amazing! I like the smaller class size as well, the mentor program sounds great, and I love how many skills you have already learned in such a sort time! Unfortunately I had to decline my seat at Palomar, they made me choose by 4pm on Tuesday. I wanted to attend both orientations but oh well... I felt terrible about giving up my seat at Palomar because I am an alternate at MCC but I think it is for the best since I like MCC so much. I wish you the best in your coming semesters and I hope ill see you around!!

You're welcome! And thank you, its hard to believe I am already almost halfway through the program. I was also an alternate at MCC and got a call a month later and was offered a seat. Almost everyone in my cohort that was an alternate ended up getting a spot, so you should be ok :) If you don't get a spot by orientation make sure you attend and show them how ready you are to start the program! They should give out the rest of the seats at orientation. Worst case scenario you start in the spring

I know its too late now, but my advice to anyone who has to decide between schools would be the accept your seat at each school and then decline the seat once you make a decision. Its not uncommon and it will give you more time to make such a big decision :). The schools will take people right before the program starts because they have to fill the cohort so you aren't "taking" anyone's seat.
