Hi everyone,
I'm starting this thread for those of us that applied to MiraCosta and/or Palomar's Fall 2017 ADN cohorts! Please share your stats/points and any insight on either program if you have any :).
I calculated 85/86 pts depending on life credits. I scored 88 on the TEAS 6, 3.6 science, 4.0 gen eds. I'm also an Emt, worked at a hospital, and have an AA degree.
I know MiraCosta only takes 20 and I believe Palomar is 36. I did almost all of my pre-reqs through MCC and I've been told It has been really impacted the last few cycles. 85-89 was the point range for spring 2017 at mcc! I'll be happy to get into either but Im not sure on the major differences between the two programs.
Good luck to everyone, I'll be anxiously waiting the next 4-6 weeks! 😬
I'm still hoping Palomar will send out the first round of emails this week haha!! The last two cohorts started finding out within 6 weeks and a couple days (oct 12th and April 12th). I think they tell everyone late April because that's when they hope to have all of the acceptances sent out by. It looks like they send out the first round, wait for people to accept/deny and then send out more. I believe their orientation is also in May, a lot earlier then Mcc's in July. The waiting continues!
@maxsancheese, sorry to hear you didn't get into Mcc, hopefully you will get into Palomar. If grossmont is an option for you I think you can get into their program with your points, sdccd as well. A CNA or an Emt class is also good to have either way. I have been both a CNA and an Emt. I took SD city's Emt class at the Miramar campus last summer. It was only 8 weeks and definitely worth it :), the program is also run by a seasoned er nurse and paramedic with 20-30+ years of experience.
I was turned down for the 2nd time by Mira Costa, hoping to be accepted by Palomar. I'm in the high 70's at Palomar so I'm hoping that will be enough to squeeze me in. Otherwise, I'll definitely have to do some sort of CNA or EMT class. Good luck to everyone in this nail biting process.
Hello, I was accepted to SWC with 73 points however I applied to Palomar as well and had 72 points. I received a email today for the RN admin tech stating that I'm a competitive student however my C in physiology took those extra 5 you get for having a 3.0 in the science. She stated that if I would have gotten a B that I would have been accepted to the program. I have an overall GPA of 3.69. That being said it was a letter of advice that if I don't get into SWC to retake my physiology so that I could get into Palomar if that was my first choice which it was not. That being said if I would have gotten those extra five points in the science I would have had 77 points. If she told me that would have made me competitive for the program than I'm certain you will land a seat in the program. Don't stress or worry about it.
She said I was a very strong student as well, I just did 18.5 credits last semester and worked fulltime so that C was the best I could given the circumstances. I also have my CNA license and got points for experience as a Pharmacy Tech at Palomar.
As far as Mira Costa goes they take the least amount of students out of all the community colleges so don't be too hard on yourself I think you have a very very good chance at Palomar from what I read in the email sent to me 77 and up would pretty much get you in.
Good Luck to you!
ALSO EVERYONE SHE SAID THAT THE LETTERS OF ACCEPTANCE WILL BE GOING OUT LAST WEEK OF APRIL/FIRST WEEK OF MAY DUE TO BEING BEHIND SCHEDULE SO THEY ARE COMING YOU GUYS!
