MiraCosta Palomar Fall 2017 ADN

Hi everyone,

I'm starting this thread for those of us that applied to MiraCosta and/or Palomar's Fall 2017 ADN cohorts! Please share your stats/points and any insight on either program if you have any :).

I calculated 85/86 pts depending on life credits. I scored 88 on the TEAS 6, 3.6 science, 4.0 gen eds. I'm also an Emt, worked at a hospital, and have an AA degree.

I know MiraCosta only takes 20 and I believe Palomar is 36. I did almost all of my pre-reqs through MCC and I've been told It has been really impacted the last few cycles. 85-89 was the point range for spring 2017 at mcc! I'll be happy to get into either but Im not sure on the major differences between the two programs.

Hey there! I think I have about 86 points. I scored an 80 on my TEAS, 4.0 GPA, phlebotomy license, experience in medical field, fluent in ASL. I only applied to Miracosta because of a mistake with my Palomar app. This is my second time applying to Miracosta. I did most of my pre-reqs there.

Also - we find out at the end of April, right

You're points/experience are competitive:). When I turned in my app she said mid-April at the latest. Did you have the same points last

time you applied? Or did you increase your points this time around?

I would like to hear more info on the differences as well. All that I have found from some other threads on here is that MiraCosta possibly pushes Ivs sooner, and is maybe more "relaxed" then Palomar, where Palomar is more strict. But in any nursing program I'm sure they are all strict and similar in many ways. I've also read that Palomar does clinicals through kaiser/Palomar and mcc is through Tri-city (not sure where else). MiraCosta has a 100% nclex pass rate and I think Palomar is 97-98%.

Can you please expand on what you mean by "relaxed" and "strict?" In what terms? I can tell you that the students at City say that the program was very disorganized and that they were not sure of the information they needed to know for tests.

I just repeated info that was on other threads so I don't have any detailed information for you unfortunately. Nor can I confirm if one person's opinion of one program being more relaxed then the other to be true. MiraCostas class size is only 20 and Palomar is 36. The smaller class size is important to me.

I created this thread to also see if I could get more information on the differences between the programs. I know that both programs are highly ranked in California and just based on the nclex pass rates alone I'm confident you can't go wrong with either program.

I took most of my pre-reqs through Mcc and the professors are very qualified and experienced in their fields. My med term prof and intro to pharm prof are both advanced practice nurses who are part of the nursing faculty at Mira Costa. One also works for the sdsu advanced practice nursing program. The classes I'm in now are very organized and strict/to the point with what is expected.

I should also add that both schools are partnered with Point Loma Nazarene to earn your bsn through them after you finish the program.

I have around 80 points or so. I scored a 90 on the TEAS test, 4.0 in my science pre-reqs and a 3.6 in my reqs. I unfortunately don't have work or volunteer experience.

80 pts is really good, did you apply to both programs or any others?

The first time I applied I only had about 79-80 points.

Yeah, I'm not super confident about getting into Mira Costa, but Saddleback is my number one choice because it's a lot closer to me and I feel pretty confident about getting in there.
